4/11/06

Mr. Wiggly's spare cylinder head arrived yesterday. I'd like to apologize to the DHL driver who delivered it. That thing was heavy! It is in the back of the Pimpmobile now waiting for my next trip to the shop. I think I'll just set it aside, along with the valves and springs, and not even consider doing the head swap anytime soon. Hell’s bells, I'm not even sure I have enough lead in my pencil to lift the old head off of the engine in the van much less drop a fresh one on! Have I mentioned how heavy it is? Oh yes, I see that I did. I think I saw 67 pounds on the DHL tracking information. Zoinks! I'm in a quandary about the exhaust though. I'd like for Robert to install the header and carburetor, but I think there might be some linkage issues. I need to find out what condition the stock carburetor is in so I can make that call. If it is shot, we’ll need to install the Weber right away. If it is useable for the time being I'll just have Robert get the van up to minimal snuff and I'll plan to do the hot rodding on my own at my shop. Besides, I'm still waiting for my re-jet kit to arrive before anyone can install it on there. Have I mentioned that I think I'm going to try the 32/36 in progressive mode first and see how it runs before buying the synch-link kit? Well, I am. My thinking is thus, a properly jetted 32/36 will run on a 256 cubic inch Jeep six cylinder, it should work on a 225 Slant Six. I also think it might, possibly, perhaps, sort of, make the tiniest bit more torque with the little throttle. Air velocity through that first barrel is going to be outrageous! Then again, it might not get out of its own way until the second barrel is engaged. We’ll see. What I need to do is read up on “power valves” and see what it is they do exactly. The reason is the carburetor I have has had the power valve removed and a siphon tube epoxied in its place. It was a carburetor off of a Formula Ford race engine. Hell, it might be jetted fat enough for a street Slant Six already! I just spoke to John. He’s going to ask Robert if the carburetor on Mr. Wiggly is good enough for the time being and if so I'll plan to install the header and carburetor at my leisure. This sounds familiar. Man, I can hardly wait to drive Mr. Wiggly! I guess I need to get it on my insurance and transfer the title sometime. I was reading about power valves a minute ago and I still don’t know for sure what they do. It said something about leaning out the mixture under light load and making it richer under full load. I think what this carburetor has will make it run slightly rich all the time. I can live with that, I think. Besides, being fat and retarded can be a good thing! Well, I'm not having much luck in the rambling department today. I think I'll shut it down and go to the internot.
