4/6/06

I had a thought yesterday but John talked me out of it. [ Don't blame me... - SM ] I was thinking about selling off everything but the Seven and just simplifying my life. I'd save $550.00 a month on shop rent. I'd save on insurance for all of those cars. Granted, none but the Seven and the Pimpmobile are insured at the moment, but they all will be eventually. Like I said, John talked me out of it and I wasn’t even really interested in doing it anyway. I'm not even sure what prompted the idea. Yes I am. My thinking was that weekends could be spent either working on projects or driving finished cars. The Seven drives and thus would be how I spend weekends. I did think that there would be weekends that are not conducive to driving the Seven but would be fine for working on projects. I think I used that as the final nail in the “sell it all off” idea’s coffin. So, we’re back to where we started. Pretty much, ignore that whole first bit there. John spoke to Robert while we were running around and he, Robert, is willing to install the header on Mr. Wiggly for me. His one stipulation was that he would be replacing the starter at the same time if he did. I said that was fine with me. I also found on a Weber sales web site a re-jetting kit for the DGV carburetors. I need to take the idle jets out of the one I'm going to use to see what style they are and then give them the information. They need to know the vehicle make and model, year, altitude it will normally be running at, and the type of idle jets. Of course if I get the 38 DGAS from e-Bay I'll see if it will run as is first. Coming off of a 6-cylinder Mercedes, I'm going to guess it will be pretty close. We didn’t work on anything at the shop last night because we were more interested in getting the plane tickets for the trip to Baja Vancouver for the Canby Datsun event in June. I picked him up and we headed for the shop so I could trade cars. Yes, you may remember that I drove the Seven to work yesterday so the two of us rode in it across town to the shop. Helmets and an intercom would be necessary for a cross-country trip. It wasn’t the least comfortable ride I've ever had but it wasn’t the most comfortable either. Anyhoo, we looked at stuff at the shop for a bit then took the Pimpmobile to my house to buy plane tickets online. Once done there we headed to Radio Shack where I bought a new phone holster. We then went to Benito’s for dinner. It was after dinner that he spoke to Robert about the header situation. My reason for not doing it myself is this; there is a muffler shop right around the corner from Robert's place. There isn’t one anywhere near the Beenbroke shop. Once the header is on, an exhaust system will have to be built. I'm going to go with duals exiting right in front of the rear tires. It should sound tits! John had an evil suggestion for a badass intake. He suggested taking the Offenhauser dual one-barrel manifold, making a pair of 45-degree pipes with flanges on both ends, and running a pair of Z-car SU carburetors! The more I think about it, the more I love it! For that matter, I could make one adapter and run a single SU on the stock manifold! Hey hey! If I were to go that route, I could use one of those spare SU carburetors that I have on the turbo and the other on Mr. Wiggly. That could be interesting. Not something you see every day. I'll bet I'd have the only Slant Six with an SU carburetor in the whole world! I like it. I think I'm going to mull this idea over while reading more stuff on the internot. I'll talk to y’all again tomorrow.
