6/26/06

I got little done over the weekend. Saturday morning John and I went to the shop and stood around for a bit. We tried the adapters I bought for the wheels I bought for Mr. Wiggly. They won’t work. The adapters are 5 on 5 whereas the wheels are 5 on 5½. Marty Smith called to say that George had given him his spot at the swap meet and wanted to know if we wanted to go try and sell some stuff. We decided to go shopping for wheels. I found a set of 14” turbine-style wheels off of a Camaro for $100.00 but kept walking. Good thing I did too because on the next row was a virtually identical set, in 15”, for $75.00. We said we’d be back. We walked the rest of the meet and each bought something trivial. I got a 610 sales brochure and John found a model of a 510. When we got to the end of the meet and looked back at the hike we had ahead of us, John flagged down a dude on a golf cart and asked for a ride to the gate. The dude said, “Hop on!” He took us all the way to the Pimpmobile and we drove back to the 15” wheels. I bought them and we headed for lunch. We never did see Marty by the way. We ate at Benito’s and then headed back to the shop. Later in the evening Pat called to ask if I wanted to go to the swap meet on Sunday with him and Ray. I said I did. Sunday morning I called him again and he came over with the Subaru. Did I mention I was buying the Subaru GL Wagon from him? Well, I am. We conducted our transaction and Ray arrived. We took off for the swap meet. This time I suggested we head for the back row and work our way to the front. They agreed and we did that. The pickings were mighty slim on Sunday, even at 0930! Most folks pack up and leave after Saturday, apparently. The only thing of interest was a mid to late eighties 300ZX with a broken timing belt. On Saturday it was marked $500.00 but Sunday it was down to $200.00 so I walked around it. The dude practically begged me to take it for $150.00 but sanity prevailed. [ If it's a 5spd, the transmission is worth more than that... - SM ] I really do not need another project that will never be finished. I told him I'd have to think about it. Ray and Pat talked me out of it but I'm not 100% sure how convinced they actually were or if they were just doing it because I asked them to. I didn’t buy it whatever the true feelings of all involved were. Ray took his leave of us so Pat and I went to lunch. Actually, we went by my house first so I could fly a bombing mission over the porcelain works. He was thinking about getting a shop space out near the Motorsport Ranch so we had lunch at a little Italian place on 377 and then headed that way. We didn’t find anything so I dropped him off at his house and went home myself. I slept on the couch for a few hours and then did nothing for the rest of the evening. This morning I drove the Subaru to work and now I'm talking to y’all. Oh, for the time being, until some other name comes along and displaces it, I'm calling the Subaru the Patty Wagon. [ Genius... - SM ] Well, that’s about all I have for now. I may come back later but don’t hold your breath. [ Always better to leave ‘em hangin’… - SM ]
