11/8/06

I did receive my cam and stuff yesterday. I dropped them in the back of Matilda without even looking at them. I was telling someone about it today and she asked how I could restrain myself from opening the boxes and having a look. I said I'd have a look at them at the shop tonight. She said it would be like the panties in “Sixteen Candles” when I held it over my head for all to see. She asked if I was going to charge my friends a dollar each to see it. We had a laugh and I went back to my desk. John and I discussed the engine situation and the plan now is for him to drop them off in his garage and then we’d go get them in Mr. Wiggly later. I'm getting excited about Barbecue Bob again. We gave passing thought to using a six-speed but gave up on that when the price was discovered to be over a grand for a used one. Yeah, five speeds will be enough. They’ll probably be overkill actually. I could probably get by with a four-speed or even three, for that matter. Even though I'm building this engine “wrong” for the street, I'm building a “top end horsepower” rather than a “bottom end torque” engine, I'll bet the thing is still going to have at least twice the torque the chassis needs to haul ass. I need to go to the Edelbrock web site and see if they have horsepower and torque figures for a small block Chevy outfitted the way I'm building mine. I know, every engine is different and it would only be a guess and the only way to be sure is to dyno mine and blah blah blah. I'm going to look anyway. In fact, I think I'll do that when I get back from lunch, which is where I'm going now. Well, so much for that plan. Mom is on line right now so I can’t go to the internot. I guess I'll have to talk to y'all some more. I have a concern with the Barbecue Bob project, well a couple actually. First and foremost is my selling out and installing a Chevy engine in a Datsun. I'm justifying it somewhat by telling myself, “It is only a 610.” I couldn’t do it to a 1200 or a 240Z, but the 610 was never very popular. Yeah, that helps me sleep. My second concern is that it is going to be another Fauxbra driving experience. I'm worried that I'm going to hate how it drives. I guess if that is the case I can always sell it. I'm sure it would fetch some decent money. We’ll see. Of course I may like it a whole lot, Juan never knows. I'm having my “Mad Max black” versus “not overworking the air conditioning white” internal debate again. The fender flares look really tough on the car in white, will they if it is black? I don’t know. The car looks really good in white, will it in black? I don’t know. I'll probably leave it white, unless I watch “Mad Max” during the build. There is this one scene where the camera is looking in the windshield of the black interceptor at Max’s face and you can see the flat black stripes on the gloss black hood. It almost gives me wood every time! I know, The Interceptor is an Australian Ford Falcon and not a Datsun 610, but Barbecue Bob's flares really give it a post-apocalyptic Mad Max look, in my opinion. I really want to put a roof spoiler on it but I don’t think John will let me. Did he insert a comment there? Oh, I just had a look back and saw the bit about air conditioning. I remember now that the “in dash” HVAC was a worrying point for me. I'm not sure if we’re even going to attempt to hook it up this time. I forget what John tells me we’re doing, almost as soon as he does, each time I ask. Actually, I think we get sidetracked during the discussion and it never gets resolved. Yeah, that’s the story I'm going to go with. Well, I think I'll go check on the internot again. Have a day.
