12/6/06

I spoke to John last night about the Barbecue Bob V8 situation. He assures me that enough people have put V8s in 510s that it is not going to be a problem putting one in a 610. I'm imagining the engine being a lot taller than it probably is. We decided that we might grab a chrome, or plain if we can find one, oil pan and see what has to be done to make it fit between the cross member and the steering link. Also, he assures me that the block is the widest part of the engine and that the heads shoot vertically straight up from the deck. I was, again, imagining them coming “straight” up from the block thus making them the widest part. Just shows to go you that I know nothing about a small-block Chevy. Ok, so I'm going to stop worrying about the thing fitting. Now, as for the other reason we spoke, he talked to the guy with the Shelby Charger yesterday and that dude only wants $500.00 for it. The more we discussed it, the more it sounds like it is an ’83 or ’84, non-turbo car. Not that that is a deal breaker, but it might make a suitable excuse to pass on it. Then again, it might be a fun car to “restore” and have around. We’ll see. John pointed out that I could use that SDS fuel injection computer on it if I wanted to build a stompin’ turbo motor for it. I don’t know, I'd have to see what shape it is in first. If it is as “nice” as John said, it might behoove us to “restore” it to stock trim. No, it would behoove us to walk away and not get involved! Well, my day went to hell before I stopped in to talk to y'all. I just had to relax a bit by typing for a moment. I think I'm going to get back into the swing of things and stress out about what’s going on here. I may be back after lunch but don’t hold your breath.
