2/7/07

Eighty years ago today, my father was born. I'm not sure where to go with that so I'm going to move on. I finally heard from the folks with Barbara’s title. He wants to meet me at the courthouse on Granbury Road at 1530 h this Friday. I need to remember to get the VIN off of the car so I can put it on my insurance before then. I guess I will be going to the shop for sure this afternoon/evening even if John doesn’t. I also heard from the guy who wants to buy Gigi and Herman. Well, he wants to buy Gigi; I'm making him buy Herman to get a title. He’s planning to come get “them” next Saturday. That would be the 17th, not the 10th. I used quotes because I'm not convinced he’s going to be able to get both in one day. He might have a big enough rig though, Juan never knows. We’ll see. John and I are planning to remove Gigi’s engine either tonight or this weekend. I don’t think we’ll get Herman's engine out though. Nor do I really see a need for it. I know, there really isn’t a need for Gigi's engine either but I want it as a complete spare, just in case. And who knows, I might get a wild hair to build another Seven from the ground up using the Locost plans and install an A-12 with a four-speed. Then again, I might get an even wilder hair (I know we’ve discussed this but I don’t remember if it should be “hair” or “hare” so I'm going with the former) and build a one-off of my own design. Ooh, I just had a thought, which is always dangerous. What about a 5/8 scale 240Z? That could be interesting. No, upon reflection I think I'd probably make a replica of a DAT32. For those of you not living under a rock like John and I, a DAT32 is an early model Datsun from around 1932 which looks like a 5/8 scale Ford sedan. To tell the truth, it is a copy of the early Austin 7 I do believe. [ save some minor engineering changes, it is an Austin 7 copy. - SM ] Being a copy of an Austin it might only be something on the order of 7/8 scale though. 7/8 scale Austin that is, which itself is like a ½ scale Ford sedan, but I digress. This is an interesting thought exercise. I may have to do some drawings and see what is possible. I think I'm going to go to the internot and look up some of the details about the DAT32 right quick. I'll let you know what I find later, probably. Have a day.
