I've got half an hour to kill before lunch. I've been playing with the house I'm designing and I think I may just about have it how I want it. Of course I could never afford to actually build it, but it sure would be cool. There are several features I could probably forego, like the two solaria on the roof and the labyrinth in the sub-basement, which might just make the thing feasible. It would still be a cool house even without those things. I don’t know, we’ll see. I haven’t heard from Steve/John about Mr. Wiggly and the clutch job. Hopefully he’s done and just waiting to hear from me. I'm sure John will stop by some time this week to talk to him, if he hasn’t already, and might know something. Did I tell y'all just how close to being stranded I was? When I looked at the clutch disc the other day, it was so thin it only had one side! Well, maybe it wasn’t that bad but it was down to the rivets. I didn’t look to see if the flywheel had been scored. Hopefully Steve/John did. I doubt it would be too bad because the rivets were just showing. Then again, that might be me justifying things. We’ll see. I've been giving more thought to the 283 V8 for Barbecue Bob. Did I tell y'all about that? I know I told someone. It must have been… well, I don’t know who it was. Anyhoo, while John and I were dropping off Mr. Wiggly, Steve/John asked if we knew anyone who wants a $500.00 early sixties four-door Impala. I asked, “What engine?” to which John said it would either be a 283 or a straight six. Steve/John said it was a 283 with a Powerglide. John and I looked at each other and decided that he wants the car while I want the engine. We kind of just let it hang there and didn’t follow up, but the more I think about it, the more I think I want a 283 rather than a 305 or 350. Here’s why, the 283 has a 3.0” stroke whereas the 305 and 350 have 3.48” strokes. Well, I know the 350’s stroke is 3.48” and I think the 305 just has a smaller bore. Anyhoo, the point is, I think I want to buy that car. I'm also giving some thought to using the ‘Glide in Barbecue Bob. Here’s my thinking, if I set the thing up with a manual valve body, one where I have to choose if the thing is in high or low and it will not shift itself, a slush box might be acceptable. I'd have to discuss this plan with John, who I believe has talked me out of this line of thinking in the past but that might have been because we didn’t “have” a Powerglide at the time whereas we will if we buy this car. If I did go that route, I would have to get a car with a four-speed so I'd have cars with two, three, four, five, and six gears. I suppose I could renege on Kevin and keep Barbara since she has a four-speed. We’ll see. I just went to lunch, saw Roger Hsieh in the Bored Room, took Chuck a projector, and stopped off in Demurrage to talk to a couple really cute girls I know. Now I'm back and I'm having trouble staying interested in entertaining y'all. No, offense. Perhaps I'll go play solitaire for a bit and see if that inspires me to talk to y'all some more. I doubt it, but stranger things have happened.
