6/8/07

It is my brother’s birthday today. All of my siblings are now at least fifty-years-old. Wow. It is also the three-year anniversary of my getting rid of the Fauxbra. For those just tuning in, the Fauxbra was a replica 1966 Shelby 427 Cobra I bought out of spite back in 2004. The spite part was because 1) the brother mentioned above really wants one and B) he pissed me off with a comment he made Christmas 2003. The really spiteful bit about it was, he never even got to see the car and I sold it on his birthday. Yeah, well he really pissed me off with what he said. I'm more or less over it now. Come to think of it, this is also the anniversary of Birkinstock ‘04 at the Motorsport Ranch. Again for the “new to the rant” crowd, Birkinstock is what I call the Southwest Sevens Festival that Bernie Long used to hold every year as a gathering of local, and some not so local, owners of Lotus Seven type vehicles. The first was held in 2003 and I showed up and hung around the fringe. 2004 I came in the Fauxbra with a “For Sale” sign and got hazed by the Lotus folks. “When you’re ready to go fast,” they’d say, “sell that thing and buy a Seven!” Well, I did just that. 2005 I showed up with my Seven in “Under Construction” mode. Finally, in 2006 I got to drive my own Seven to the event. This year, unfortunately, NASA scheduled only one race at the Motorsport Ranch and it wasn’t a good weekend for Birkinstock. Well, that and Bernie was getting worried about liability and such running the event out of his own pocket. I can’t blame him there. Well, maybe we can all get together somewhere, sometime, later in the summer and at least hang out. We might not get any track time or a T-shirt, but we can grok each other’s cars. Of course there’s the Tail of the Dragon thing but it is more of a national event. I'm not sure what that has to do with anything but I said it nonetheless. I think I'm going to look at stereo stuff for Matilda in the morning. I really shouldn’t think about spending frivolous amounts of money like that with this trip coming up, but I really have the itch to upgrade right now. Besides, it isn’t like I'm rethinking that $5,500.00 Rolex, I'm just talking about a $500.00 to $700.00 stereo system. Oh, I went back to Crutchfield again after talking to y'all yesterday and did up a “Shopping Cart” full of stereo bits. It came to around $650.00 or so. I know, the “or so” just then was redundant over and over and over again, but I hate ending a sentence with a number, especially one with a decimal point. But I digress. My point is, I think I can probably get what I want installed for less than seven bills. I hope. I just realized I don’t have any pictures of Matilda on my work computer’s screen saver. What brought this fact to my attention was the four or five pictures of the Pimpmobile that are on there. That was a sexy car I have to admit. I still am not convinced that I was ever black enough for that car. I think I'm going to load a few pictures of Matilda onto a thumb drive and transfer them over to the work computer. Done. Now all I have to do is wait for the screen saver to activate to see if they actually transferred. Ok, I actually went into the properties thingy and had a look at the screen saver. They did transfer. I actually only transferred two pictures of Matilda but I also did one of George, one of Mr. Wiggly, and one of Maxine. I think that was all. Not that it really matters. Ok, I'm just wasting time now. Since I came in an hour early his morning, and the doctor wants me to swing by for a follow up “whiz quiz,” I think I might just cut out of here around 1500 h today. Yeah, I'll tell the boss I'm having trouble with my eyes. I just can’t see me staying until 1700 h today.
