John is… well, if not evil he’s mighty naughty. [ Call me Farmer John... Always planting ideas in people's heads... - SM ] We were discussing the cars last night and tires for Marty’s “new” wheels came up. That would be the wheels we took off the 510 on Sunday by the way. He said he’d look up some tires for them and send me the link. Well, I got to work today and found a link to the Tire Rack’s website for some 185/60-13s and 195/60-13s. The price was right too at $43.00 each for the big uns and $39.00 each for the lil uns. I ordered a pair of each. They should be here this weekend. So, in addition to the Japanese fender mirrors, I'm planning to run “bigs and littles” on Marty’s old car. Those are two “styling” things he hates. Of course the B&L won’t be too outrageous due to (tee hee, I said doo-doo!) the fact that they aren’t really all that different front and rear. In fact, I challenge anyone to notice the B&L effect on the Seven which has a much more pronounced size difference. But I digress. With tires on the way for that car I really need to finish George so I can get to work on it. I think we’re still planning to run the Chickenhawk’s Z-20 with fuel injection but I'm not sure what transmission we have decided upon. I think that will be a game day decision. We’ll probably put Marty and John’s 1200 side by side and see which car needs the smaller gear box. I imagine we’ll discover that his car needs the dogleg and mine will accept the straight pattern box. I feel like I'm “cheating” John by “sticking” him with the dogleg. I don’t really care which box I wind up with. Hell, I'd settle for the Chickenhawk’s old four-speed if I had to. I don’t want to, but I'd settle for it if it was all we had. We also discussed making the car right-hand drive. He has all the kit to do it and if he doesn’t use it in his 1200 it will just go to waste. By “all the kit” I mean he has the steering gearbox, drag link, idler arm, steering shaft, steering column, pedal assembly, dash, and probably more I'm forgetting. I imagine he’ll use it all in his car, but there was talk of other possibilities. We’ll see. Oh, while thinking about Marty’s tires earlier, I also thought I'd like to get a set of matching gauges for the dash. I'm thinking 3” tachometer and speedometer and if there is a matching 3” multi-gauge cluster unit, that as well. I got called away before I could go to Summit to check it out. I know there is a 3” or thereabouts, speedometer and tachometer because Pat has the speedometer in his Scout and I have the tachometer in George. I want to match them because they fit so well in the 1200’s dash opening. I guess I could forego the multi-gauge thing and use the stock cluster. [ I got one with a factory tach... ;^) - SM ]We’ll see. Well, it is about lunchtime and I'm tired of talking to y'all. Have a day.
