4/9/08

And the winner is… George! I spoke to John yesterday and was given a rundown on why he hadn’t given me an answer about the trip this weekend. He can’t be sure that he’ll be off work in time Friday in order for us to make it to the hotel in time to check in. It is a four to five hour drive after all. I was going to be cutting it close leaving early from work. So, having said all that, I did send an e-mail to the organizer of the event asking for a participant list. If there is someone on that list that I just can’t miss meeting, I'll still go. Ok, so I can hear Buffy the Vampire Slayer out there saying, “Um, yeah. Waffle much?” To which I reply, “Shut up and go ‘jump the shark’ when you drop out of college and your mom dies and all the ‘Scooby Gang’ moves in with you and you have to support yourself and that whiny little sister they magically threw into the mix in season three or four and the Council recalls and fires Giles and that weak assed punk villain kills Willow’s lesbian lover and Joss Whedon starts to concentrate on some ‘Firefly’ project which by the way never really got off the ground so your quality loss was for naught and, um…” Ok I seem to have gotten a bit off track there. Anyhoo, the point is it is most likely that I will be in town this weekend working on George. Well, I have to go pee and do some other stuff. I'll probably be back later. Ok, I'm back. So I said I'd be working on George this weekend. Actually, John and I are going to probably swap the 200SX axle from the Chickenhawk into Marty/Timmy first. Ok, do I still need to combine those names? Can y'all remember that the car called “Marty” when I owned it is called “Timmy” now that John owns it? I hope so. So John is planning to run the 200SX axle I built for the Chickenhawk in Timmy. We’ll swap in a roller axle of some ilk so the Chickenhawk isn't disabled and roll it back around the shop. Oh, I guess I need to remember to drive either Fifi or Mr. Wiggly on Saturday since the trailer is parked in front of the Chickenhawk. Of course that means Darth Versa’s grille will arrive Friday and I'll have to wait to install it. Damn. Oh well, I've waited this long, another day won’t kill me. So, if the replacement of the Chickenhawk’s axle doesn’t take the whole morning, John will then work on Timmy while I work on George. I think there is a swap meet at La Grave Field this weekend so I'll probably plan to go to that after we break for lunch. That is, unless John has an all day “kitchen pass” to be at the shop. Usually he has to be home in the early afternoon so we call it a day at lunchtime. If that is the case, I think I'll suggest Benito’s for lunch since it is on the way, more or less, to both John’s house and La Grave. Oh, I guess I just did. Suggest Benito’s that is. Anyhoo, here’s what I'm thinking I'll concentrate on with George this weekend: finishing up the rear axle and under-car buttoning up. I wonder if I have any gear oil for the axle and transmission. I wonder if the transmission needs any more gear oil. I guess I'll stop and buy a couple quarts of Stinky McStinker’s Slippery Sludge, just to be safe. Ok, so I'll probably buy Mobil1 since that is what I usually use. Ok, so if I can get the axles back in the housing, the brakes on and hooked up, the driveshaft in, and that superfluous rubber muffler strap removed, I think I can put the car back on the ground. That’ll be a pretty successful day at the shop if I can accomplish all of that. Of course there are more-fun things that I could work on, like the installation of those Corbeau seats, but I really ought to have John “crack the whip” on the less-fun junk first. A picture of George just flashed past on my other computer. I can hardly wait to have that one back on the road! Ok, so I'm not really as excited as that, but I'm trying to be. Like I said yesterday, I'm “driving” that car in my head as I walk around campus to help boost the excitement level. [ Hehe... you said "boost"... - SM ]No, it isn't really working, thank you for asking. I'll muddle through. Well, I'm getting bored with this today. I think I'll quit and go play with something else for a while. Toodles.
