10/28/08

John called me yesterday to tell me that there will be a Concealed Handgun License class at the gun range on the 15th. I told him I'd do it but I might need to rent or borrow an automatic for the class. I'm still giving thought to selling the 1911 to that dude at the range and either buying a Judge or becoming unarmed again. I could sure use that $450.00 right about now. What we decided to do was to wait until Wednesday to make any final decision. If they will allow me to fire a Judge, or something similar, I'll decide if I even want to go that route. If I don’t like the way a Judge shoosts, then I'll just have to decide if I want the money or the 1911. Had it been last week, there would be no question about it. He’d be buying that gun since I'm so broke. But since I get paid again this Friday, it is just a matter of surviving another two days with no cash. I'll probably go ahead with the class even if I don’t have a gun at the time just to be a step ahead when I do buy another one. I just don’t know. We’ll see tomorrow evening I guess. Anyhoo, I'm a little surprised Spiderman didn’t have anything to say about my “lack of sleep on the campout” story yesterday. I was sure he’d be all, “Well, then why do you go camping if you hate it so much?” But I don’t hate it. I just wasn’t prepared for being this old and going camping. I'm going to have to invest in an air mattress or something for the next outing. At one point in the night I did consider grabbing the chaise lounge thingy someone had brought and trying to sleep on it. I'm not 100% sure why I didn’t, other than the fear of poking holes in the floor of my new tent with it. I have plenty of room for a cot or something in there. Hell, I've got room for a full sized bed just about! Wouldn’t that be funny? I'd be all, Sheikh of Araby with my… hey! Yeah, that's the way to go. I'll just bring a butt-load of pillows to line the floor of the thing! I'll need a big assed hookah for the middle too if I'm going for the Sheikh motif. Ok, I'll probably just get an air mattress and call it good. Oh, and a new sleeping bag. I think I'm done with “mummy” bags since I don’t plan to camp anywhere cold enough to really need it and I can’t sleep on my back anymore. Except for the douche bag on the PA system, I had a good time. I need to do more camping than I have in the last few years. In fact, I think the last time I camped before this was when Pat, Nora, and I went to Roswell, New Mexico for the fiftieth anniversary of the UFO crash. Yeah, that was back in 1997 so if I camp again in the next ten years I'll be ahead of the game! Holy crap, was that really ten, well eleven, years ago? Daaaamn! Time is flying by! Oh yeah, keep an eye on the skies over southern California in 2047 by the way. I predict something is going to happen. Why? Well, 1997 there was the “Phoenix Lights” incident. Fifty years before that, and about 450 miles east in Roswell, there was the alleged UFO crash. Fifty years before that, 1897, and another 450 miles east in Aurora, Texas, there was another alleged UFO crash with alien bodies buried in the local cemetery. I seent the “grave” myself as a kid back in the seventies. I checked with MUFON (the Mutual UFO Network) to see if they knew of anything happening in or around Meridian, Mississippi in 1847 or southern Georgia in 1797, but they said records don’t go back that far. Anyone in the Meridian, Mississippi area want to share stories of strange local legends from around 1847? How about y'all in Georgia? Heard anything about “devils” or “hauntings” near the end of the 18th century? Anyhoo, my point is Los Angeles falls on that line about 350 miles west of Phoenix. Bakersfield fits the distance but strays a little to the north of the line. So, if we survive the end of the Mayan Long Count Calendar, which is to run out on December 20, 2012, look for something to happen in or around LA, or perhaps Bakersfield, California in 2047 and remember that I predicted it!
