Sunday morning I get a call from Roger. He wants to go to an Eat All You Can barbecue joint in Euless. I tell him I'll need to wait until mom gets home to invite her along. I'm sure she won’t go, but I have to make the effort. When she does arrive home from church, I tell her the plan and invite her to join us. She declines so I head to Roger’s house. I pick him up and we go eat. It was pretty tasty, and “eat all you can” to boot. I think the place was called Mainstreet Barbecue or something like that. Anyhoo, after we stuffed our faces, him more than I, we headed back. I asked if we could stop at Euless Guns and Ammo “on the way” back. He didn’t have a problem with that. They were closed. As we were driving, he started telling a long and rambling story which didn’t appear to be going anywhere. When he was finished, and it in fact had gone nowhere, he asked if I knew what the point of it was. I did not. He said, “I didn’t know they even made a 9mm rifle.” Ok, I don’t recall him even mentioning a 9mm rifle anywhere in the story, but it did lead to me telling him about the Space Gun. We diverted and headed towards SMR Firearms. They were also closed. I said, “I know Cutie Patootie’s range and store are open. Want to go there?” He did, so we did. We took Loop 820 and just as we were approaching I-35 I said, “Let’s see if Cheaper Than Dirt is open.” He asked what CTD was so I told him. We went there. I looked at the Taurus PT111 to see if I'd gotten screwed, I had not. I priced ammo and looked at some other things while he shopped for stuff on his own. Finally we wound up together at the counter in front of the Fabrique Nationale FS2000 assault rifle. I asked to see it. It is really cool. I cannot justify buying one, especially at $2,600.00, but it is really cool. They sales dude then started telling us all about AR-15 rifles and how the Rock Island is a better weapon than the Bushmaster for $200.00 less. We finally took our leave of the place and headed for Cutie Patootie’s range. There we shopped some more. I looked at their PT111 and was pleased to see they were in fact higher than what I paid. After a while, Roger decided to rent a gun and we went in for some shoosting. I shot about fifty rounds through the Hebrew Hammer and about 100 through Millie. Roger put 100 through a range-owned Glock. After we were done, we talked to Sarah some more and she showed us the FN PS90, which is the “little brother” of the FS2000 I was checking out at CTDOA. It is really cool. Again, I cannot justify one, even though it is “only” $1,995.00, but it is really cool. She told us that they even make a pistol in the same 5.7mm caliber. “We’ve got one in the back,” she said. She went back and got it. It is so very cool! It is also $2,000.00, but ever so cool. Notice I didn’t say I couldn’t justify one? Yeah, if I had the cash, I'd have one of those. We finally have enough and leave. On the way back to his house, he’s asking more about the Space Gun. I offer to go to the house and show it to him. This we do. While there, I also show him Slick Willie and mention that he’s for sale. He doesn’t bite so I drop the matter. We leave and I say, “There’s an Academy Sports and Outdoors on the way to your house. Want to stop?” He does so we do. While he looks at Glocks and several .22 caliber time wastes, I look at real guns. I have the guy pull out the Magnum Research (the Desert Eagle folks) BFR in 500 Smith & Wesson. Holy crap is that a big gun! I like it! It wasn’t as expensive as I'd thought either, something like $650.00 if I remember correctly, which I might not [ MSRP is $929 - SM ]. After I had him put that back, I had a look at the Taurus Thunderbolt, a pump-action rifle in .45 Colt. I think their price was a bit better than Euless Guns and Ammo’s. So, if I buy one, it’ll probably be from Academy. And that’s about all I did over the weekend. Yesterday I sent an e-mail to Magtech asking, “If y'all have full metal jacket .45 caliber bullets, and .45 Colt shell cases, why don’t you sell .45 Colt rounds with FMJ bullets?” I went on to ‘splain that with the popularity of the Taurus Judge, there probably is a market for that ammo. I said that I'd like to be able to go to the range and not have to use either unjacketed lead ammo or $2.00 a shot jacketed hollow points. I haven’t heard back yet. I also told the guy interested in buying Slick Willie that I would take the $225.00 he offered the other day. We’ll see how that goes down. And on that note, I think I'm done here. Toodles.
