1/22/09

I started to rant yesterday about the Obacalypse, the coronation of Borat Osama, how I wondered if he wore the lime green leotard from the movie, and stuff like that. I got bored and erased it. Then I couldn’t think of anything else to say so I didn’t even try to make a rant. I spent the day making a spreadsheet to finger out the best prices for ammo. In the one catalog I used, CCI Blazer was the cheapest in all three of my calibers, 19¢ a bullet for 9mm, 30¢ a bullet for .45 ACP, and 67¢ a bullet for .45 Colt. Both the 9mm and the .45 ACP were FMJ ball ammo but the only way to get jacketed bullets in .45 Colt is to buy hollow points. Still, 67¢ per bullet is better than the $2.50 bullets I have bought in the past! Yeah, shooting the Judge costs anywhere from 67¢ to $2.50 per trigger pull. But that’s not what I'm here to talk about today. Yesterday I texted John to see how his afternoon looked and what were our chances to go shoosting. He said he'd probably be home around 1800 h. Off the cuff I said I'd probably go to Whiskey Flats and shoot then go to the shop to clean the guns. I revised the plan to: I'd ride around with Larry Shuttlebus until he was off, we’d go to CTDOA, then I'd come pick John up around 1800 h, and the two of us would go shoot. Well, just as Larry and I were about to go to CTDOA, I called John to see how long we had for shopping. He was on his way home. I bowed out of shopping with Larry, which neither of us needed to do anyway, and headed to John’s. As I pulled up to his house I was preparing to be pissed off. Sitting in the driveway was a brand new GMC Yukon Denali. I wasn’t sure how they’d managed to trade in Matilda when I hold the title, but I just knew they'd done it. Oh, it was about to be ON! Of course as I approached I heard two dude’s voices and fingered out John was probably selling something to some random dude, as he is wont to do from time to time. That was the case. The dude left with his new booty and John went in to retrieve his guns. We went to Cutie Patootie’s range and signed in. She gave us a hard time about stuff, as she does, and then we went in to shoot. I shot the Hebrew Hammer first and scored a perfect 250 on the mock CHL test. I only had one “flyer” outside the nine-ring in the eight, but that still counts as five points. I loaded five rounds in a clip and handed it over to John. He liked the way it shot but said you can definitely feel the difference between the .45 and the 9mm. Duh. He handed over his Hebrew Hammer, a metal framed 9mm, and I shot a few rounds. It was almost like not shooting at all! There was virtually no felt recoil. It was very nice. I handed it back and began wiping down my HH. I pulled out Millie and unloaded the Hornady TAP ammo from the two magazines. I loaded them up with ball ammo and changed targets. Another perfect 250 points but this time I had two and a half “flyers” in the eight-ring. I blame the long trigger pull and will say that the “flyers” were during the 12 yard shots. I burned through another forty rounds and gave five of the last ten to John so I could finally finish off that 1,000 rounds of reload ammo I bought at the gun show. Yes, I blew through 1,000 rounds of 9mm ammo in three and a half weeks. That’s just crazy. I've gone through at least 200 rounds of .45 ACP since last week when I bought the current Hebrew Hammer. Wow, has it only been a week since I bought that? Kooky. I sure hope my speed loader arrives today or tomorrow because it is really getting to be a pain loading magazines manually. I'm spoiled to the thumb-saver thingies. Actually, the .45 isn't as big a pain as the 9mm. I know I can get another double-stack 9mm thumb-saver just about anywhere. I ought to do that. Perhaps I'll go to CTDOA this afternoon. I think I looked last time I was there, but not very diligently. I have also discovered something called Williams Fire Sights for Millie. They are a fiber optic set of sights which gather ambient light and channel it to the one green front and two red rear dots. The Judge’s front sight is fiber optic and I like it quite a bit. Then again, now that I think about it, it doesn’t really stand out as much as they say it should. Well, I know what aisle the sights are on at CTDOA. Perhaps I'll have a look at them. We’ll see. Holy crap! It is almost noon already! Ok, so it is 1127 h, but still… I didn’t think it was that late. Well, I think I'm going to call it a rant. Y'all have a day.

Addendum: I just got home and opened the FedEx package on my chair. It is the UpLula universal magazine loader. I tried it out and all I can say is

GREATEST

TOOL

EVER!
