Ok, here’s a quick rundown of what we accomplished last night at the shop. Nothing. Well, I guess I'll talk to y'all tomorrow. Ok, I'll go into a bit more detail, if you insist. After work I picked John up at his house. We rolled from there to the UPS hub where he picked up a set of wheels he’d ordered. After that we went to The Shooster’s Club to see what they would offer him for his .45 caliber Baby Eagle and the .454 Casull Super RedHawk. A pittance, and not a pittance each, one pittance for both guns. Needles to say, he didn’t take the offer. We left and began the search for Nissan Quest wheel studs. Damn, I should have said, “we began the quest for Nissan Quest…” no, that wouldn’t have even been a good pun, or palindrome, or whatever it wasn’t. Anyhoo, we called three different Boys of Pep and asked. One store showed thirteen on hand and another showed five. The third had a slack-jawed yokel answer the phone and we couldn’t make her understand what we were looking for. We headed to the “thirteen on hand” store. They had eight. We bought them and headed to the shop. Well, it turns out that whoever told John that Quest studs fit 510 hubs was wrong. The splines are much bigger. We’d drilled the Honda hubs to ½” for the Datsun studs but the Quest studs won’t fit. We checked the one hub that had already been drilled “too big” and they fit it. Luckily John hadn’t gotten around to ordering that hub from California after all. So, our options were: put studs in that one front hub or look for a 17/32” drill bit. We decided to look for a bit. Of course I didn’t have anything bigger than ½” so we called Lowe’s. Leon told us he was looking right at the bit and we said we were on our way. Truth be told, we were on our way anyway. We got to Lowe’s and looked for the bit. Nothing bigger than ½” as I suspected. We found Leon and he said, “Oh, I thought you said 7/32 of an inch.” We “thanked” him for his time and left with just a box of rivets for the flares. We ate at Genghis Grille and I took John home. That’s about it. Today I ordered a 35/64” drill bit from McMaster-Carr so we can get the wheels on Roku-Hyaku in the next few weeks, hopefully. We’re still not sure what we’re going to do for brakes or engine though. I'm sure something will present itself to us eventually. Well, that’s about all the time I have today. Maybe I'll have something to say tomorrow.
