4/21/09
Get it? Yesterday was 4/20/09, 4/20, 4:20, time to smoke weed, “we won’t be seeing very many stoners…” because they are all out being stoned. See? Ok, so at some point during the day Saturday, Kevin called from the swap meet at La Grave Field. He was planning to go back on Sunday to try and sell his GMC truck. I said I'd like to join him. He said he’d call me in the morning and we’d meet up. He called around 0900 h and I rolled out of bed to answer. I shoved in my eyes and shaved my teeth then headed out to meet him. We began walking the isles and on the very first row was a dude selling a set of four-spoke wheels for a Corvair. They were sort of like Cragar SSs but not really. The price was good but I didn’t want to get them first thing out of the gate. We kept walking. I bought a $1.00 micro switch, the kind Juan would use for nitrous activation on the throttle. I only bought the one because I had a single and five twenties in my wallet. I didn’t want to break a twenty for just a few bucks just yet. We walked on. There were a few interesting items but nothing really jumped out at me. George called to ask where Kevin had parked his truck and offered one of his spots to us. We went back and moved the truck then continued on our quest. By the end of the rows, we’d seen all there was to see, more or less, and headed back to hang out with George. I went back to look at the Corvair wheels again, to see if he’d come down on his price. He hadn’t. I went back to George’s spot. Marty Smith showed up and he and I went to see what the gasket dude had to offer. He’d found this guy with lots of old gasket sets and bought me everything he saw for an A-series on Saturday. I wish I'd waited for him to get to the shop because one of the things was an oval-port intake gasket. D’oh! We finally found him and went through the box. There was a head gasket and some other things for the A-series he’d apparently not put out on Saturday. I bought them all, along with a NOS timing set for an A motor. Marty bought a bunch of L-series gaskets and a timing set as well. We headed back to the marshalling point. Before long, George, Marty, and I went to the registration table and each paid for a spot at the June event. I'm thinking I'll load up all that V8 crap I collected for that aborted project and see what I can get for it. I might round up some other things and, well, you know, be “that guy.” I'm also thinking of driving Shichi there and putting a ludicrous price on the window. Yeah, I love that car, but I'd laugh all the way to the bank with $25,000.00 in my pocket. Then again, I could always drag George up there and see what that car is worth on the open market. Or, we could go ahead and slap the Z-20 in Barbecue Bob and see what he’d fetch. Hmm, I have options, it would appear. Ok, so we bought our spots and went back to hang out for a bit. It wasn’t long before we all, save for Kevin who was still trying to sell the truck, headed out. I was thinking of going to Cutie Patootie’s range to shoost the Space Gun and Mossy, but at the last moment decided I didn’t really need to spend the $10.00 for the range and especially the $50.00 or more to replace the ammo I would have used. I went on home. I've been sitting here trying to think of more stuff to say and not having any luck. I guess I'll call it a rant. Tomorrow is supposed to be a shop night. Hopefully we can finish up Shichi and go for a hoon! I'll let y'all know on Thursday. Toodles.
