Ok, so here’s what I did over the weekend. Saturday morning I picked Pat up around 0830 h and we headed north to meet Tony at the Awful House on 114 near the Speedway. We were late. We got a table and ate, too much I might add, and then headed to the Pate Swap Meet at the Speedway. We walked the first quarter of the thing and saw a bunch of stuff we didn’t really need. Eventually, we came across a dude with a pair of virtually new looking polished stainless Supertrapp mufflers. They were marked $100.00 for the pair. Tony badgered me into waiting for the dude to come back. I haggled a little and we got them for ninety bucks. His story was: “We put them on the car thinking the other mufflers would be too loud. The muffler shop, however, mounted them too far out from the bumper. When we cut them off to shorten them, we discovered the other mufflers were not too loud after all. They probably have less than twenty-five miles on them.” They are still nice and shiny so I don’t doubt his story. We decided to take them to the truck rather than tote them around the rest of the meet. About halfway to the truck, I felt the cold front move through. We decided to go back in and walked a few more isles. We probably wound up doing 3/8 of the whole meet before giving up. As we were headed back out again, the rain started. We got under the awning of the Hot Rod Wires trailer and waited out the heavy stuff. I did ask a few questions of the HRW dude but he didn’t have the two or three items I was looking for. We eventually left when the rain let up. Pat rode with Tony and we headed to Cabela’s. It started to rain again and we ran inside to shop. The gun bag that I wanted wasn’t where I'd seen it the other day. I figured they had sold them all and Tony gave me a parcel of shit for not buying it when I had the chance. It went a little something like this. Me: “Well, they don’t have the gun bag I wanted after all.” Tony: “How do you know they ever had it?” Me: “I saw it here the other day.” Tony: “Why didn’t you buy it the other day?” Me: “Because your face, that’s why!” We then went ammo shopping. As we transitioned from the gun bag area to the ammo area, I saw the bags hanging on a different rack. I grabbed one. We looked at the well picked-over ammo supply and since they didn’t have any 9mm, and I didn’t need any more .45 ACP, we didn’t buy any ammo. Of course by not buying ammo, we also decided against going shoosting. I bought the bag and another .45 caliber cleaning jag and we went back to the parking lot to decide on lunch. I won with the suggestion of Shady Oaks Barbecue. We headed there. It was there that we saw the news report of something to do with the Not Texas Sow-Boys collapsing. Tony was rapt and I made the comment, “I wonder if it would be possible for me to care any less.” After we ate, we went to Blood Bath & Beyond for some reason. They had the Ruger LCR! It is whey cool! I fondled it for a bit but decided against buying one, mainly because I ain’t got no money. We looked at other stuff and eventually left. I dropped Pat off at his house and hauled ass home because I had an urgent call from Bomber Command requesting me to fly a mission. Then the bottom fell out of the sky as I was driving home. Heavy rain slowed me down some but I kept going. Light hail worried me a tad but I kept going. Deep water got splashed out of the way and I kept going. The douche bags parked under the bridge almost got their hoods shat on but I made a gap and kept going. Near zero visibility on the freeway was a pain but I kept going. I got to the house and parked; then my ass got going. Damn, so close. Yes, I crapped my pants in the driveway, twenty feet from the toilet. I cautiously got to the shower and got in fully dressed. I cleaned myself and my clothes up and went back out to check the damage to Fifi, just a small spot on the seat. I cleaned that up too and retraced my steps to see if I'd left a trail of poo. I had not, well, not inside the house at least. When I was satisfied that that fiasco was over, I settled in for the evening. I've already begun the tale of Sunday, but I'm going to save it for Thursday’s rant. Have a day.
