I think I'm about to go Linux. When I got back from lunch today, the little “hard-drive-is-doing-something” light on my laptop was flashing away. I could also hear the drive chitter-chattering away inside the thing. It took several seconds for the thing to respond to my wake-up command. No, I didn’t whang the thing, I moved the mouse like usual. Once it did finally come to life, with the hard drive still merrily spinning along doing something I never asked for it to do, it took forever to open up programs. I checked the task manager but it told me nothing. I hard booted the mo-fo. While it was restarting, I went to the work computer and got online to look for a Linux laptop. In my shopping, I discovered that there are damned few companies selling laptops with Linux as the operating system. I also learned that some of those who do sell it actually buy Windows units and remove that OS before loading Linux. “So what?” I hear you saying. Well, why send ANY money to Bill Gates when I can buy a laptop that has never had Tiny and Flaccid loaded on to it. Turns out Dell is one of the few companies selling “free-range” laptops which haven’t had T&F loaded on them. Yeah, I just bought a pretty good unit (well, John will have to confirm the details on that) for $400.00 with shipping and taxes and crap. Now the bad news, I'm going to have to wait almost a month for it to be built and shipped out. I'm going to have to really concentrate on not breaking this current unit until I have a chance to swap all my pictures, songs, drawings, rants, spreadsheets, and whatever else is stored on here. But mark my words, I'm taking this thing somewhere and I'm going to shoot holes through it come early August. I'll need to get a video of that to show to Ryan here at work because he hates it when I destroy computers. I don’t know, maybe I'll donate it to him instead of blowing it away. Then again, I really do enjoy destroying computers. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate computers? Oh, I hate them. I hate them a lot. Perhaps Linux will change my tone. Perhaps it is only Tiny and Flaccid I hate. It really isn't the hardware’s fault, most of the time, I guess. I would have deleted T&F from this guy and loaded Linux but for the fact that there is a gaping hole in the side of the thing where the CD drive used to be. Oops. Well, I've got to go since it is almost 1700 h. talk to y'all Monday.
