Ok, remember how I was all hot and heavy to buy that Beretta CX-4 Storm Carbine yesterday? Well, I'm not so sure now. I really don’t need to spend that much money when I've already got a Space Gun I never shoot. I did run a few dummy rounds through the current Space Gun last night to see if it would feed properly. To my surprise, it actually did. Of course I just checked and my pay was deposited so I'm “nigga rich” right now. That Storm really is cool. Ryan has too much on his plate to buy the… ok, here’s the deal, the current Space Gun will be Space Gun I and the Beretta will be Space Gun II, ok? Where was I? Right, Ryan has too much on his plate right now to buy Space Gun I so I'd be “stuck” with two 9mm carbine rifles if I did buy Space Gun II. I suppose Space Gun I could become the shop’s long gun. Hmm, now that is an interesting idea. Ok, I might still buy the Beretta. We’ll see. Damn, but it is so friggin cool. Oh, and I can get twenty round magazines for it. Oh, and the standard magazines are fifteen rounds. Space Gun I’s standard magazine is only ten rounds and the hi-capacity ones are only fifteen. Shite! I'm talking myself back into the Beretta! It is so friggin’ cool. Has Spiderman put up a link to it yet? I sent him one yesterday. Let me go check. Not as of 0955 h Tuesday morning. Ok, I'm going to play with a spreadsheet. I'll probably be back. Yeah, after crunching the numbers, I really don’t need another Space Gun. I'll use this money for Lil' Wiggly or Barbecue Bob or Shichi or something. Ok, speaking of Lil' Wiggly, John has put forth the suggestion that he buy it from me rather than borrow it. I said something to the effect of, “every time I drive it I'm reminded of how much fun it is to have an old Datsun.” We’ll discuss it, but I'm thinking if that deal does happen I really need “Barbecue Bob or George up and running soon” to be part of the equation. And no, the word “need” was not the epitome of hyperbole. I do need an old car to hoon in when I don’t feel like hooning in Shichi. Shichi is fun and all, well it was and hopefully will be again with the Mikunis, but sometimes I just want to hoon in a regular old sedan. You Lotus Cortina guys know what I'm talkin’ about. What we really need to do is get rid of that Honduh taking up space in the main bay. Ok, wait. Maybe “get rid of” is a bit strong. “Get it out of the way until such time as we’re really ready to tackle it,” sounds better. Yeah, as if we’re ever going to do anything with it. But that is another story. I probably ought to make Roku-Hyaku a roller again, push it into storage, and get back on George. That’s my “closest to finished” project. I shouldn’t even think about any other car until we’ve sorted that one out. Since Shichi did exactly the same thing George did when we first fired it up this last time, I think we might be on to a diagnosis. It would be really cool to have George back on the road, especially with that turbo. Oh, and I'm still thinking of painting it pink with all the Hello Kitty decals. See if I don’t! Hmm, what to talk about now? I got nothin’. I think I'm going to shut it down for a bit, maybe play some solitaire. I may have more this afternoon. We’ll see. I'm back. I've been thinking more and more about my carbine situation. I think I am going to do the smart thing and stick with what I've got. As cool as the Beretta is, I have the Hi-Point. Did I mention running some dummy rounds through it last night? If so, bear with me while I tell the story again. I see I did mention it above but I'm going into more detail now. Here’s what I did. I loaded all five dummy rounds into one of the new fifteen round magazines and cycled the bolt manually. It loaded the first round and I think ejected it fine. The next round loaded but didn’t want to eject. This, of course, caused a double feed jam which I had to clear. The fourth round did fine, if I remember correctly, as did the fifth. I reloaded and tried gain. I think I got it to cycle all five through eventually. I tried the other new fifteen rounder. It cycled fine first time and every time. I loaded up the old fifteen round magazine and gave it a try. No such luck. I compared the lips of the old magazine to one of the new ones and tweaked it to match. It fed better, much like the first new fifteen round guy. I tried the two ten round magazines and got them to work pretty well except for the last round. For some reason they will not feed the tenth round unless you physically push the mag all the way into the well. I'll probably just keep a dummy round in the bottom of each one and consider them nine round magazines. That gives me three Mozambique Drills per short magazine and five per long magazine. You do know what a Mozambique Drill is, don’t you? Two to center mass and one to the head? Anyhoo, I think I need to go to the range with the Space Gun and make sure all magazines are going to be reliable then be happy with what I've got. Oh, and get some Datsuns running.
