So the other day, while dressing for the shop, I decided to try on my holster and see how Big Millie carried. It tucked into the shorts nicely and my shirt covered it up pretty well. I walked around the house for a bit and it felt pretty good. I decided to go ahead and add the belt to the equation just for safety’s sake and everything felt nice and solid. I decided I'd go ahead and carry to the shop. I popped a hot magazine in the handle but didn’t rack the slide. I'm not ready to commit to “one in the chamber” yet. Yeah, I know there is a manual safety as well as several other internal safeties, but having the striker (I don’t even know her!) cocked and ready to fall still makes me nervous. I'm sure I'll get over it. We’ll see. So with the gun holstered and almost ready to go, I dropped another magazine in my front pocket and headed to the shop. Well, I got to the car when Major Kong got the nuclear weapon ready to release from the bomb bay and I had to go fly a mission. It was a bit unnerving to have the gun flop to the floor when I dropped my shorts, but all went well. After finishing the paperwork on the mission I re-upped the shorts and got everything adjusted. I went back out to the car and had a seat. I could feel the gun poking me in the waist, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. On the plus side, it would be very difficult to draw the thing in anger while driving. That alone might save some dumbass in desperate need of a good killin’ some day. Of course it won’t help me in a carjacking situation, but I can shoot the mother fucker once I get out. I stopped for gas and was a tad self conscious about the gun while standing there pumping. I don’t think I was checking it constantly, but I might have been. I got back in the car and headed out again. When I pulled up to the left turn light, the through light was green but we had no arrow. I waited, about four cars back. The light turned yellow then red. “Ok,” I thought, “we’ll get an arrow next cycle. No biggie.” Well, the next cycle came and went without an arrow. Of course the oncoming traffic was thick enough that the front car wouldn’t go. I sat it out for another cycle, just in case the last was a fluke. Nope, there was no left turn arrow. I bailed. I cut right onto Granbury road and did a “U” turn. I just missed the light as I came back. Well, the car in front of me actually missed it, I was stuck behind him. Pat pulled up in the turn lane next to me but didn’t notice me. He was too far up for me to try and get his attention either so I let it slide. The light for the direction I had been going changed but obviously didn’t get a left turn arrow. The first car did finally get a gap and went though. When my light changed, I looked to see where I would have been sitting. The car that was in front of me was still two cars back. I eventually got to the shop and got out at Marty’s place. It was then that I remembered the gun in my waistband. I'd totally not noticed the thing while fighting the light. I think I can carry Big Millie in the waistband confidently. I wandered around with Marty and John and then hung out with John and Pat when Marty went in to get ready for a date. Eventually we three went to DLR and did the stuff I told y'all about yesterday. Just before starting in on actual work though, I decided to take the gun off. I walked over to the hatch of Ms. Clio and started to “un-strap” myself. John saw me and said, “Have you been carrying that thing this whole time?” He was incredulous. He hadn’t noticed it at all. Tee hee. So, I think I'm feeling confident enough that I can conceal successfully. I'm just telling y'all that to let the bad guys know there is at least one more non-sheep out there. I may or may not be carrying, but do you want to take that risk? Let’s hope not.
