7/31/09

We went to the shop last night. Yeah, that’s about all there is to say about it too. OK, there is more. See, I was thinking about thinning the herd, as I'm wont to do, and thought, “Barbecue Bob really is super-flu-us. John is looking for something to be a daily driver. Why don't I offer it to him?” I sent him a text asking if he’d be interested and he was. We said we’d hash out details at the shop. While waiting to hear from him as to what time he’d be headed down there, Gregg called. He was in the neighborhood of the shop and was wondering if we would be headed that way. I said we were and that I could head out any time. This I did. I decided to go ahead and swing by the house to change into shorts, grab Big Millie, and take a crap. I forewent driving Shichi because I needed gas and a car wash for Ms. Clio. I stopped at the Mobil station and saw a white Ford F-150 turning in. I fingered it was Gregg and was right. He cannot pass that station without buying beer. He came up to me and we spoke for a bit. I said I was going to run through the wash and would meet them at the shop. When I got there he and I hung out for a bit and chatted. I pulled Lil' Wiggly up in front of the door and started messing around with it. He eventually left and I messed with a few items on the car while I waited for John and/or Pat to arrive. Pat never did. I replaced the rear view mirror inside Lil' Wiggly with one I found laying around and then did a rear-seat-ectomy. The back of that seat was probably worth a horsepower! John arrived just as I was about to go for a quick hoon down to the lake. I parked Lil' Wiggly and we began looking at the various and sun dried projects around the place. I think the “final” plan was that we’d install the L-18 from the back of that truck into Barbecue Bob with the intake and exhaust from John's Bluebird. The Chickenhawk's old engine will go in Timmy, John's 1200, probably with dual side draft carburetors(?). The Chickenhawk will get that KA-24 with fuel injection to finally fulfill my desire to have an engine of twice the stock displacement in there. Roku-Hyaku has been pushed into limbo. I'm not sure what is going to happen with that car now. Perhaps some day... I just deleted a long section with a proposed schedule. I had to go back and rearrange it so many times that I finally said, “Fork it!” A synopsis would be: move Roku-Hyaku to paint booth, lower Lil' Wiggly, drop engine in Barbecue Bob, swap carburetors on Shichi, finish sorting out Barbecue Bob and George simultaneously, finally moving on to the KA installation in the Chickenhawk, and installing the Chickenhawk's old engine into Timmy. Once we’d exhausted all the entertainment value the shop had to offer for the evening, we went to Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner. It was pretty good. We talked in the parking lot for a bit before heading our separate ways. One of the discussion points was whether or not I could carry the Hebrew Hammer in my preferred position. When I got home I tried it out in Big Millie's holster. It fit remarkably well. The only issue, which might be moo, is I'm not sure if the hammer is going to gouge my belly when seated. I sat for a bit with the Hebrew Hammer in the holster inside my waistband while massaging WD-40 into Big Millie. It didn't bother me too much but it was for a short period. I'm thinking I'll carry the Hebrew Hammer this weekend and see how it feels. I like both guns, and feel confident in my abilities with either, but I do prefer the extra, added, bonus, and redundant over and over again safety of being able to de-cock the Hebrew Hammer. It would allow me to carry eleven shots (with one in the chamber) instead of the ten I feel safe with in Big Millie. On the other hand, the Hebrew Hammer doesn't like hollow point ammo as well as round nose FMJ. But with a .45 does it really matter that much? Now is the time where I'm supposed to say, “Well, hopefully I'll never have to find out.” Sadly, I don't know if I really do feel that way. Don't get me wrong, I'm not thinking about going out and shooting people, but... I don't know, I do kind of want to take out a bad guy some time. No, the more I rationally think about it, again being redundant over and over again, I really do not want to be put in a position where I have to kill somebody because I do not want the legal ramifications. So, with that said, I think I'm going to call it a rant, a week, and a month. Y'all have a day. Hell, take a whole weekend while you’re at it. Toodles.
