11/5/09

OK, so on Monday I went to the credit onion to see about a mortgage. Suffices to say, in order to borrow money, you have to have money. I was a little bummed when I discussed it with mom and we decided that the “deal” they worked out wasn't going to work for us. I started thinking of other things I own which have value. Of course, we’ve already discussed selling Ms. Clio and getting that loan and insurance payment off my back. I wouldn't be opposed to that. But then it hit me, “If I'm about to have a Triumph TR-3 in my stable, do I really need the Seven?” I shot an e-mail to Dick Brink about it and planned to go talk to him on Tuesday. His attitude and assessment of my car’s value, sight unseen more or less at this point, was enlightening. He ‘splained that the market for Sevens is for the 250 and up horsepower Duratec cars. He showed me a lovely clam-shell fendered, crossflow powered car valued around $19,000.00 and said mine running would be in that range, more or less. He then pointed to a Duratec car and said, “That one will sell for $25,000.00.” We talked some more and the general consensus was that if the time and money were spent updating my car to Duratec power it would be worth the effort. I said that I didn't want, nor could I afford, to do the work converting my car and that I'd prefer to take “roller money” for it and let him or someone else make the car “valuable.” By the way, “roller money” is in the estimated $12,000.00 to $13,500.00 range. That is a tad lower than I'd need to get Ms. Clio paid off, but is actually more than I expected for a roller. Of course walking around Dick’s place and looking at Sevens made me want to keep the thing. Then there’s the fact that I'd regret it immediately and forever if I did sell it. I'm not saying it won't happen, but I'm being realistic. I just don't know what to do. As far as the house goes, well, I'm not sure what we’re going to do there either. Perhaps we’ll just transfer the title to me and then I can go get a home equity or home improvement loan of some sort. Anyhoo, after talking to Dick for a while, I headed over to the gun store where I bought the original Space Gun. I'd asked him the last time I was in there what he could offer me for it and was ready to take it. I'd brought the thing with me, just in case. He asked what I'd like to get for it and I told him, “I’d like to get $200.00.” He offered me $175.00 and I took it. Fortunately he didn't have a stainless steel slide PT-145 or I'd have been in trouble. I took his check to the credit onion and deposited it. Of course it turns out Ryan had decided that he was ready to make an offer on the gun but I didn't know it until I got back to work on Wednesday! D’oh! Oh well, what are you going to do? I guess now that I only have one Space Gun, I don't need to differentiate between Space Gun I and Space Gun II anymore. Well, feh. I'm getting bored talking to y'all. I think I have you caught up with what all happened on my “Staycation” so I guess I'm going to call it a rant for the day. Who knows what I'll have to say tomorrow. We’ll just have to wait and see.
