I stopped off at Blood Bath & Beyond after work yesterday and refilled my .45 ACP ammo supply. I also bought another 100 round case and 100 rounds of 9mm JHPs. I'm now sitting on 550 rounds of .45 ACP ammo (300 rounds of ball and 250 rounds of JHP), 471 rounds of 9mm (203 rounds of ball and 268 rounds of JHP), 60 rounds of .45 Colt JHPs (The only way to get .45 Colt ball ammo is unjacketed lead. I don't like unjacketed lead), and 270 .410 shotgun shells (25 birdshot, 55 rifled slug, and 190 buckshot) for a grand total of 1,351 rounds of ammunition. No, I do not think that is overkill, I think it is just-enough-kill. In fact, I think it borders on under-kill, actually. Anyhoo, with ammo in hand, I then went to Automotive Machine to lessen my debt to them. Steve, acting out a secret desire to be a travel agent, sent me on a “guilt trip” saying he’d really like this one off the books this year. I told him I'd do my best. When I got home, mom said, “Oh, weren’t you going to pick up your engine today?” I told her I'd dropped off some more money on it and she offered me the last $350.00 to get it today. Since it is supposed to sleet and snow, it is currently raining, I offered to wait until Wednesday to see if A) the weather is better and 2) I might get paid. I turned down her money saying I didn't want to keep sponging off of her. This morning she said, “Call your guy and tell him you will be picking up the engine tomorrow.” I don't really need to call, I'll just show up with either cash or the money in my account. So, remember all that smack I was talking yesterday about rewiring Shichi Thursday and Friday? Yeah, that’s probably out the window now. Of course I do need to paint the block before assembly so I suppose I could work on the wiring while that is drying. We shall see. I doubt I'll steal George's MSD at this time though. I'll just have a look-see at the horn issue. I'm thinking of relocating the horn button to the hole where the choke knob currently resides. I guess I could put the choke cable in the old horn hole. We’ll see. Anyhoo, I want to move the button for two reasons. 1) it will be in a more stable environment, one which isn't being disrupted by the removal of the center console every time I need to do anything with the car. And B) to have it in a more accessible location when I need to honk the damned things. I just had a look and I could probably move all of those switches up to the dash and get rid of a whole mess of potential short circuits down there on the console. I'm going to look into that. I'll need to make another aluminum panel to replace the one with all the switchgear, but that ain’t no hill fer a stepper. Whatever the hell that means. OK, so now that there is another plan in the books, one which will be changed a couple times before anything actually happens, I think I'm going to call this day’s rant complete and go play solitaire for a while.
