1/7/10

I remembered another thing about the CPAP experience. I was going to go back and edit this in but forgot. When I put on the mask and fired up the machine, “POP, wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!” was what I heard as my eardrums distended and the small amount of tinnitus I usually ignore was exacerbated. I love using words like, “distended,” “tinnitus,” and “exacerbated,” expecially in the same sentence. Supposubly it makes me sound smart, I guess. Irregardless... well now that is interesting. OpenOffice.org’s spell checker accepts “irregardless” as a word. I was using it as a bit, knowing it is NOT a word. Anyhoo, so the Darth Vader machine popped my ears and they haven’t felt right since. Load of voodoo hokum if you ask me. Oh, I did find one other guy on a CPAP forum who said he thought the whole thing was crap, but he’s still trying to make it work for him. Idiot. When my doctor asks me about it, I'm going to tell him, “Well doc, for a placebo to work, the subject has to a) not know it is a placebo, and 2) believe in the efficacy of the treatment. I a) think it IS a placebo and therefore 2) do not believe in its inherent efficacy.” I will go on to tell him that I did try it but that it popped my ears uncomfortably, and I could not breathe with the thing on, negating my “supercharger” theory about CPAP. I just had another thought, even if the treatment IS sound, there is going to be an anti-placebo effect for me in that no matter what they say, I'm never going to believe it long enough to “get used to it” and have these magical effects go into, um... effect. Nope, CPAP is cRap! OK, so I've been doing some more research into that purple .380 pistol I almost bought the other day, right? Well, it looks like I did make the right decision. Well actually, the best decision was probably to turn and run away screaming, but “not buying it” was a close second. It isn't that .380 ACP is underpowered, which it apparently is, or that it isn't a reliable “man stopper,” which is also under contention, or that the single-stack magazine only holds five rounds, which ain't enough in my mind, but that the thing is a cheap assed, unreliable gun. Now having said that, I may look into that Ruger LCR or LCP again for gits and shiggles, you know, as a pocket gun when I don't want to holster up Big Millie. In fact, since I may be picking John up after work so he can borrow Fifi to move, I might cut out early and go to Blood Bath & Beyond to do a little shopping. Of course I can't afford another gun right now, nor do I really need to get involved with another caliber. I don't know, we’ll see. I think I'm going to call it a rant for today and go do something else for a bit. I'll let y'all know how the gun shopping went tomorrow.
