4/21/10

I stopped by Blood Bath & Beyond Monday to replace the ammo I'd shot on Sunday. I picked up two boxes, twenty rounds each, of Federal 000 buckshot and one box, five rounds, of Winchester 000 buckshot. That quantity filled all of the ammo storage boxes I have. With those, I now have exactly 1,000 rounds of ammunition on hand. I hadn't planned on it coming out exact like that, but the math geek in me was pleasantly surprised. Anyhoo, while I was there, I walked to the Taurus case and had a look. Yep, they had a 3” chamber Judge. Patrick, the dude who made it sound like the deal was on, wasn't there so I talked to someone else. I ‘splained what I wanted to do, trade the 2.5” chambered Judge with laser grips for the 3” chambered Judge with regular grips, and he said he had to go talk to the manager, or something. He came back and offered me $350.00 for my gun, no word about a trade. Psh, the laser grips alone are worth that. I said, “I guess I'll keep shooting two and a half inch shells.” I still plan to take it to the next gun show and see if someone will trade me. Although, to be honest, the other day the laser worked pretty well and didn't bother me nearly as much as it did before. Also, this gun is a known quantity as far as functionality. I won't know if a different gun is going to work nearly as well as this one does. I have had a bad one and have heard of even worse ones out there. Hmm, perhaps I won't see about trading this gun after all. It was a lot of fun to shoot the other day. We'll see. So, I mentioned raising the hood (roof) frame on Nadine the other day, didn't I? If not, when Marty Smith was at the shop looking at the car, we raised the frame of the hood. We got it about halfway up, to a point where everything was sort of where Juan would think they kind of ought to be, but something didn't look right. The top bow was just barely higher than the steering wheel. Now, the windshield was off so we had no perspective as to just how much too low this really was. We put the windshield on. “Ok,” I said, “that ain't right.” There was one little “knee joint” at the base which needed to be flipped and then it all lined up. Yeah, I think that frame will get removed, to add lightness, and we’ll just rely in the tonneau to “seal up” the car if it ever gets parked some where. I guess I'm going to have to buy a tonneau for it. Speaking of tonneaux, which would be the plural of tonneau I believe, I need to reinstall the one on The Seven sometime. I'll need to affix a pair of straps to tie it off when driving though because it will not tuck behind the seats anymore. Why? Because of the new harnesses. They are mounted under the tonneau, sort of. Just trust me on this one, OK? I sure hope we have better weather this weekend because I really want to drive The Seven, and reset the valves, and re-torque the head, and install the tonneau, and... um, probably more stuff. I'd almost forgotten just how much fun that car is with a proper, drivable engine. Is it the fastest thing on the road? No. is it the most comfortable thing on the road? Ha! Not by a long shot. Is it fun as hell? You better believe it! I just hope Nadine is half as much fun to drive. I can't help but believe it will be because almost all of the anachronistic cars I've ever owned have been, in their own way. Well, I'm getting bored with y'all right about now. I think I'll call it a rant and go play solitaire. Have a day.
