7/15/10
Well, the last of the gauges arrived yesterday. Remember how John and I were discussing what the fourth, more precisely sixth, gauge was going to be and decided on a clock? Well, when I got home on Saturday and went on line to order it, they didn't list one. I settled for a volt meter. Meh, they are cheap and easy to wire up. So now I have a 5” 10,000 RPM tachometer, a 5” 120 MPH speedometer, a 2 1/16” volt meter, a 2 1/16” fuel level gauge, a 2 1/16” oil pressure gauge, and a 2 1/16” water temperature gauge for Nadine. I'm a little irked about the tachometer though. I would have preferred an 8,000 RPM unit since I know I'd never even approach the top of that gauge. With a 10k unit I'll only ever use the bottom half at best. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a 5” Sport Comp in a 8k tachometer. Oh well. So, I think the plan for the weekend is still to get started removing the Hoyt-Clagwell tractor engine. I'll probably strip off more of the trim and stuff to prepare the body for paint as well. On another note, I got an e-mail from Mississippi Auto Arms the other day. That is where I bought the collapsible stock and pistol grip for the Saiga by the way. They have on sale, while they last, Saiga 7.62x39 rifles with 16” barrels for $299.00! Basically, it is an AK-47 with a Monte Carlo stock instead of the pistol grip stock. Oh, and it is all black synthetic instead of wood furniture. I've been thinking about an AK for some time and this is about $100.00 cheaper than I've seen them. Even with a $45.00 collapsible stock and pistol grip kit, a $10.00 30 round magazine, $25.00 shipping and $9.10 processing fee, I'm still under the $399.00 I've been seeing for an AK. Unfortunately, I'd have to order it through an FFL dealer and have it shipped to them. I'm stopping by Blood Bath & Beyond after work to see if it bumps me over the AK’s price. I really don't need to blow that kind of money on another superfluous gun, but it sure is cool. Then again, I keep coming back to “7.62x39 ammo is so damned cheap!” At least 7.62mm is .30 caliber. I could justify that as a deer hunting round, especially with the scope. Ooh, I wonder if I could mount my scope on there! I'll bet I could. Duh, of course I could just by getting one of those side mount thingies. Well, I'm afeared I might be blowing some money on a Saiga rifle soon. I would probably have to buy some namby-pamby five round magazine for hunting though. I don't think they allow deer hunting with a gun with a thirty round magazine. Well, we’ll see. I guess on that note I'm going to call it a rant. Have a day.
