10/25/2012

I don’t have anything to say today but… oh wait; I did think of something yesterday that I wanted to share.  Ok, so I've been talking about getting a single-action pistol in .45 Colt to “go along with” my two lever guns, right?  Well, with the purchase of the blunderbuss, I'm now thinking about going for a similarly “cartoony” gun to “go along with” it instead.  I think I'm going to look for a 5” barrel Judge to replace the 3” barrel Judge I sold to Gregg.  Whereas the 3” Judge looks kind of silly with its extra-long cylinder, a 5” barrel Judge looks downright… well, “cartoony.”  I've considered a 5” Judge in the past but haven’t “pulled the trigger” if you will because… well, I'm not sure why actually.  When I didn’t have a Judge, but had the holster, I didn’t buy the long barrel because it would have stuck out the bottom of said holster.  Since I let the holster go with the gun this time, I'm free to get the longer gun.  This judge will be named after Elihu Smails from “Caddyshack,” the cartooniest judge I can think of.  Oh wait; there is an ACTUAL cartoon judge, now that I think about it: Mentok the Mindtaker from “Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law.”  Ok, I might just call this Judge “Mentok.”  Yes, I like that better.  I couldn’t finger out how to pronounce “Elihu” anyway.  So next weekend, which is not the weekend we’re about to enter because that would be THIS weekend, I'll be shopping for Mentok at the gun show.  Speaking of this weekend, John has some family thing on Saturday so we’re planning to go to the shop Sunday and yank the engine from Lil' Wiggly.  Did I mention I took the fenders, grille, and scuttle off the car last weekend?  Oh yeah, I remember saying something about it.  I also remember having to ‘splain which bolts broke off to John.  I ain't skeert.  It’ll go back together just fine, I'm sure.  I'm pretty excited about this project.  I told Kevin about it earlier and all he had to say was, “This thing is going to be scary fast.”  I told him I calculated it to be around 11.3 pounds per horsepower, the Chickenhawk to be 11.4 lbs/hp, and Fiona to be 11.5 lbs/hp.  So, it otter be just a little more scary than the Chickenhawk or my daily driver.  Of course if… aw, who am I kidding?  WHEN I buy that Edelbrock top end power kit, with aluminum heads and four-barrel manifold along with a hotter cam, it is going to be exponentially scarier than either of those cars.  But that won't happen for some time, I promise.  Well, unless the cast iron heads are junk of course.  Fingers crossed!  I will say this, if it does turn out that I NEED heads and have to buy the Edelbrock kit, I will back-burner this car until I can afford said kit and we’ll move on to putting the A-14 in the Spit.  I probably won't take the engine to the machine shop until we’re done with mockup and fabrication on the install so it will be a situation where we’re waiting on it to come back and be built anyway.  We may move on to the Spit as soon as the 289 goes to be freshened.  I don’t know, we’ll see.  Hell, we otter move on to one of John's cars while my engine is holding us up.  We’ll do something, I'm sure.  So, there’s all of that going on.  Ok, I'm bored with y'all now.  I'm going to call it a rant and go… do something else.
