10/3/13
You know how yesterday I was telling y'all about how I'm dumb? Well, I was almost even dumber later in the
day. Larry and I were talking guns, as
we do, and for some reason I got it in my head that I wanted another .410 riot
gun, a pump-action shotgun with a pistol grip and no butt stock. I'd had one a few years ago but cannot for
the life of me remember what I did with it.
I sold it to someone, at some time, but I cannot remember to whom or
when. I asked John if I'd sold it to him
and he said no so I must have taken it to a gun show at some point. Suffices to say, I wanted another. I held off as long as I could yesterday
afternoon then I went to Bloodbath & Beyond. Fortunately, they didn’t have what I
wanted. I looked at a few other things
but nothing was quite right… and I didn’t need to buy a gun just to buy a
gun. I left with empty hands. On the way home, I swung by Academy to see
what they had. They didn’t have a .410
riot gun either, nor did they have anything else to tempt me… well, not to the
point of worrying about it. From Academy
I went to Elk Castle. Once again they
did not have the riot gun for which I was looking. They did have something… interesting? In their case with all of the .45 Colt/.410
pistols, Judges and the like, they had a little single-shot break-action pistol
like a Thompson Center Contender which caught my eye. I asked about it. Well, it was in that particular case for a
reason… it was in .45 Colt/.410 caliber.
I grokked it a bit after seeing the price was $159.00! I sent the salesman to help a “paying
customer” and thought about it for a bit.
Once again, I didn’t need to buy a gun just to buy a gun, not to mention
a gun with practically no use, so I held off.
I found the guy and told him I was going to be good and not buy it…
yet. Yeah, I'm probably going to go back
and get it because… well, I'm dumb for one thing, and it is kind of an
interesting bit of kit. So we’ll see. I'm still hot for a .410 riot gun but can
probably fight through it. What is going
to be tough is when I see a 12 gauge riot gun in my price range. No, I've got Pumpenstein which is a pump
action, duh, with a pistol grip butt stock.
That’s close enough for me… for a 12 gauge. See, the thing is, I've got the Lever Gun in
.45 Colt to go along with Mentok, my 6” barrel Judge, but I don’t have anything
else in .410… to go with Mentok, my 6” barrel Judge. So I want a .410 shotgun, preferably with a
pistol grip, no butt stock, and an 18” barrel… a riot gun, sort of thing. But enough of that. I have shop plans. John and I are going to meet at Beenbroke
Saturday and load up the welder and air compressor… and probably a few other
things. We will then go to the new shop
and have a look at the wiring. I'm not
sure if I mentioned that one of the reasons I didn’t want to do the wiring last
week was because I was there by myself.
It was also raining so I fingered, “better safe than sorry.” If my brother doesn’t show up, which I doubt
he will since it has not even been mentioned, I'll have to buy another socket
for the welder end of the wall wiring.
I'm sure we can get that at the hardware store down the road from us
though. If we have time after wiring the
shop, I might suggest one more trip to Beenbroke for the welding table but I
won't make it a priority. I seriously
doubt we can get the welder, compressor, and table in one trip. Perhaps if we forewent the compressor… but
I'm not going to suggest that just yet either.
No, of the three, the compressor is actually more useful for more people
than either of the others. Of course
eventually everything will get moved so I suppose it could be argued that since
I have a couple welding projects, and only two flat tires on Lil' Wiggly which
doesn’t really need to move, the welder and table are more pressing at this
time. I'm sure John and I will discuss
it Saturday morning. Then again, if we
were to fire it up for a bit when we arrive, drain the compressor’s old oil,
and open the tank drain as we are leaving, it will have time to vent down and
“dehydrate” while we’re gone and the possible second trip could be for it. If we don’t make it back, we can get it next
week. I don’t know, we’ll see.
