So I'm sitting at my desk at 0830 h on Boxing Day. There is NOTHING going on today, except
possibly the installation team working on the Bored Room. They don’t need me here for that but the
railroad is open so I have to be here. I
came in on Tuesday as well because I was told the installers would be here and
needed access… they never showed. Well,
one of them did. There was one guy who
was going to do something in the new rooms over at the TOB. We didn’t think any of the construction
contractors would be over there so that was the real reason why I was
needed. They sent out an e-mail Monday
asking for a railroad presence to let him in on the 24th. Since it is a railroad holiday, but not one
for the company I actually work for, I said I would come in. I got here at about 0830 h and waited outside
the Bored Room for the crew to show up.
At 0900 h I decided to run up to my desk for a bit. I said to myself, “He’s going to call as soon
as you sit down.” As soon as I sat down,
my pager went off. “I’m at the TOB,” the
e-mail read. “Can you come let me
in?” I replied that I was on my way and
headed out. When I got across the
street, I saw his truck but no one around it.
I went inside to find him working away.
“Oh,” he said, “the GC let me in.”
I unlocked the A/V closet for him and headed back to the Bored
Room. I sat outside that room until
noon, which was the time I knew the Home Office was closing for the day, and
went home. I finger I'll head down to
see if they are here a little later when I get totally bored talking to
y'all. I'll probably hang out until
lunchtime when Larry and I will go somewhere for a bite and then I'm thinking I
might go home. I'd like to take the
trigger group from the SKS to the shop so I can cut off the trigger and swap
the hammer and mainspring. I'd probably
bring Bertha along so I can try her out at the range. I'd like to have at least shot the thing
before proceeding to carry it as my main defense weapon. I'm not expecting the Sneaky Pete holster to
arrive until after the first of the year but I do have the IWB holster and, as
I discovered the other day, a shoulder holster for it. Oh, while I'm thinking of it, the picture
linked to the word “Diamondback” in Monday’s rant is NOT my gun. I noticed the serial number was plainly
visible in that photo and just wanted to make clear that neither my sister nor
I have ANYTHING to do with that gun if it is ever used in a crime! Sort of thing. I know that won't stand up in court but there
it is nonetheless. So, what else is
there to say? Well, my brother is coming
up Saturday for late Christmas. I was
hoping they weren’t planning to get here until after noon so I could go to the
shop. Unfortunately it looks like they
will be coming up Friday evening and planning to meet up with us mid-morning
Saturday. I'm sure John can get along at
the shop without me, but I wonder if he will… go to the shop without me, that
is. We shall see, I guess. There is yet another gun show this weekend so
Larry and I will probably attend that.
“Why?” you ask? Well, I want to
show support for the promoters of the gun shows with my attendance… and ticket
fee of course. I don’t plan to buy
anything else, but I want to let them know there are people who want the shows
to continue. I look at it this way, some people pay to go to see “soft-core gayporn”, some people pay to go see movies, and some people pay
to go see concerts, whereas I pay to go see row after row of guns for
sale. It is just another form of
entertainment, and I want to keep doing it.
Oh, crap on a cracker! It is only
0915 h! I'm not sure just how much more
of this I can stand. I think I'm going
to call it a rant and… hell, I don’t know what I'm going to do...
