5/18/10

Holy crap! It is only Tuesday! Ugh, I hate Tuesday. But I guess I'll fight through it. So, I stopped off at Blood Bath & Beyond again after work yesterday. I bought fifty rounds of 3” .410 birdshot shells and five 3” rifled slug shells for the Saiga. I know, I have a problem. I'm stocking up on ammo like I believe the end of the world is coming. Well, I guess it is like they say, “It is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.” Sure, almost eleven-hundred rounds of ammo in the house might be a tad excessive, but... well, I really don't have to justify myself to you, now do I? I am thinking that I “need” a 3” chambered Judge now since the only gun I own which will shoot that Russian Golden and Silver Bear ammo is the Mossberg. I don't see me popping off 150 rounds of buckshot and fifty slug rounds from that thing any time soon. Then again, I suppose I could. It would be fun to just go blast away at targets for a while. Hmm, I need to go in and have a look at my ammo inventory and see how I'd want to shuffle the cases when I begin to use some of that stuff up. I think I'll fill all the red “shoe box” cases with 7x57 Mauser rounds as they become empty. I also think I'll fill up one of the green flip-top cases with 7x57. That would give me 110 rounds in cases, five in the gun, and fifteen in the stripper clips for a total of 130 rounds. Yeah, that’s plenty of sniper... er, I mean “deer hunting” ammo. Doing so also cuts my .410 stockpile down to a more reasonable 230 rounds. Of course shifting another 50 round flip-top to 7x57 would set me at 180 rounds of each. I do like the round numbers, don't ya know? We might go that route. We'll see. Another 100 rounds of .45 Colt and fifty rounds of .380 ACP would bump each of those stockpiles up to around the same, 170 for the Colt and 169 for the ACP. Knowing me though, I'd buy two more speed loaders for the Judge to make the Colt supply an even 180 as well. Psh, who am I kidding? I'd also probably buy another couple mags for Kurt Corto to bring the .380 ammo up to 181 rounds. OK, time to rein in this addiction. I have 119 rounds of .380 ACP right now. That gun won't be of much use once the fit hits the shan. I don't need to stock up on its ammo. I would like more .45 Colt because 70 rounds just seems like not enough. I will definitely buy a ton more if I ever... OK, when I buy that lever action carbine I've been eye-balling. I don't feel like the shit-ton of 9mm is excessive, it probably is, but I don't feel it. How much, you ask? 300 rounds cased, 170 in magazines, and one in the chamber of Pixie, 471 rounds total. Now, there is a part of me that wants to go ahead and give the 12 gauge back to my sister and avoid getting into another caliber. Then there’s the side of me that wants a 12 gauge! A Saiga 12 would be cool. No, I'm not going down that road. If I don't keep Daddy George's Auto 5, I probably won't have a 12 gauge. I think all those pundits “poo-pooing” the efficacy if a .410 blast, or two, or two followed by a ¼ oz slug, are full of it. In fact, I think I'm beginning to talk myself into offering Linda that shotgun back. Not having it would reduce the temptation to join that skeet club over the hill from the house. Feh, I don't know what I'm going to do. I think I've wasted enough time talking to y'all though. In fact...
