5/25/10

Well, there may be a couple more cars in the DLR stable soon. I got a call the other day from Gregg Gary saying he’s found a BMW 2002 race car for sale in Tulsa. He bought it. Now he’s not sure what he wants to do about the Datsun 1200 he was going to build. I told him I'd buy the car but that he needed to keep the super hot A-14 engine I'd sold him, the one from The Seven that was so un-streetable. We agreed that for $250.00 I'd buy the shell and whatever parts he’d accumulated, minus anything I'd given him related to the engine. Then last night I get a text from John asking if I'd be interested in a 1966 Beetle. I said, “Pooibly.” Apparently John Ullom has one he wants to sell or trade for guns. I threw out the option of my Judge, some ammo, a holster, and some speed loaders in trade. John R said I needed to be in touch with John U about it and that is where we are now. I don't know anything about this car. I don't know if it runs. If not, I don't know how complete it is or how much it will take to make it run. I don't know anything about it. Hopefully Spiderman has chimed in with some information while posting this for me. We'll see. But back to the 1200, I think this one will be the faux rally car I've been threatening to build for so long, finally. Here’s the plan. I'll install 280ZX struts and springs at full ride height. Hopefully that will raise the nose of the car some. I'll then use shackles to raise the rear to match or I'll build a four-link set up to run the 200SX axle with coil over shocks. As for wheels and tires, I'll use the 15” steel wheels from one of the Versae and buy a set of those Kumho rally tires for them. I think we have an L-series engine somewhere which would power the thing quite well. Perhaps I'll finish that blow-through supercharger setup I began some years ago. Then again, I could use that same carburetor top-hat for a snorkel system to pick up air from the top of the windshield. We'll see. The interior is already gutted so I'd just need to drop in a pair of seats and make a rudimentary dash for it. Oh, it’ll have to be re-wired as well. No biggie. Yeah, this could be fun. Well, I need to go do some actual work for a change. I guess we’ll just have a short rant today.
