11/2/10

Holy crap this is going to be the longest week ever. I cannot believe it is only Tuesday. Feh. Well, we didn't do anything this weekend. John had a wedding to go to on Saturday so the shop was out. I wound up going to hardware stores with mom looking for bathroom vents. We settled on one and she bought it. I doubt it is going to work but we’ll see. I totally wasted the rest of Saturday. Sunday I waited for her to get home from church and then we went to lunch somewhere. I decided I'd go get my hunting license so I can try to shoost a Bambi next week. I decided I didn't want to go to Wal-Mart. I went to Academy instead. At the gun counter I asked about hunting licenses. “We do them,” I'm told, “but up at the registers.” I head back up to the registers. There are ten people in each line. I leave. I finger Blood Bath & Beyond ort to sell hunting licenses so I headed that direction. As I got out of the car, a familiar face greeted me. “Hey!” she says, “Hi-Point!” It was Cutie Patootie from the Shoosters Club! Well, formerly of the Shoosters Club. She remembered my gun but not my name. That’s OK, I didn't remember hers either. It’s Sarah. We chat for a bit and it turns out she’s working in the catalog department at Blood Bath & Beyond now. Eventually she has to go back in to work so I go in to shop. I ask at the counter if they sell hunting licenses. They do not. “Go to Academy,” he says. Thanks. I then ask, “If I want something in .45 Colt, I'm limited to Cowboy Action and Judges, right?” He confirms that assessment. I ask the prices on some vertical fore end grips and choose the cheapest since I'm not 100% sure I'll even be able to use it. Next I grab a box of .380 ACP ammo and head for the register. I pay and head to the Shooster’s Club. I want to retain proficiency with Kurt Corto. I shoost the twenty rounds and head to the shop to clean the gun. Afterwards, I decide to give the Academy on Bryant Irvin a chance and roll through that parking lot. Said lot was so jammed with cars I knew the store would be packed as well. I did not even stop. I went home and bought a license on line. Yes, I had to pay an extra $5.00 for the convenience, but it was worth it to not have to suffer fools. And then I wasted the rest of the day. Oh, I did install the fore end grip and as expected it won't allow me to insert the magazine. I removed the fore end and installed another Picatinny rail on the side for the flashlight. With the fore end back on, I installed the grip and flashlight then had a look. Yeah, that works. I can reach the button on the back of the light with my thumb while in a shoosting stance as well. The aim point is in the 1330 h position, or north-east quadrant if you will, of the flashlight’s beam rather than the 1200 h, or due north, like it used to be. So, if you are in my house uninvited, and a flashlight is shining on your right shoulder, your head is in the cross hairs. I'm just saying. Speaking of cross hairs, I figure there is about a 50% chance that I'll be able to actually pull the trigger when I have Bambi in mine next week. If it turns out that I am not able to shoost one, I think I'll probably sell the .308 Saiga and the attached scope. Of course I might swap scope mounts with the 7.62x39 first. We'll see. If I did swap mounts, I'd probably take the Picatinny rail I just installed off and use the one on the side of the mount for the flashlight. Then again, I might not. I don't know. As for car stuff, like I said, we didn't do squat over the weekend. I need to cut out of here early today and go pay for the Spitfire. I was supposed to do that yesterday and forgot. Oops. I guess I'll call it quits and go do that. Yeah, that sounds like a plan.
