I know I promised the tale
of the VG would be told yesterday. I
didn’t get around to it. So here it is
today. John calls me the other night to
play the “Devil’s Advocate” against me.
He said there is a dude with a VG-30 in a 510 who wants to swap in an
SR-20 and has the VG bits for sale. He,
the 510 dude not John, has a Hardbody truck intake converted to run a Weber DGV
carburetor, a Weber DGV carburetor, and a Saudi distributor converted to use
300ZX cap and rotor. John said the guy
was asking $600.00 but was hurting and would probably take five. I agreed to find the money somewhere. Then John said something about shipping so I
began to ask more questions. Since the
dude was swapping engines, I thought John was saying I was buying the whole
shebang. I asked if it was an engine and
transmission and if so how and where were they going to be shipped. He informed me that it was ONLY the bits I
just listed. Well, I thought it was too
good a deal to be believed. It is still
a smokin’ good deal so I went through with it.
I transferred $550.00 between accounts and sent the dude $500.00 through
PayPal. John just texted me that the
bits are on their way but probably won't arrive until Saturday. Oh well, what are you going to do? So, now we’re thinking VG-33 in the
Chickenhawk… again. I'm fishing for
support for the mid-engine project but John is pushing for the standard
location. Yeah, we all know John is
going to get his way and we’ll drop the thing in the Chickenhawk's engine bay
the way Mother Gaia intended, but I may pout about it. We discussed backpedaling on the V8 in Lil'
Wiggly but then wondered what we would do with all that V8 stuff. It was decided that we’d forge ahead on the
289 in Lil' Wiggly and gopher the VG-33 in the Chickenhawk. So, there’s that going on. Last night, changing subjects in mid-stream
as I am wont to do, I saw a commercial for Google’s laptop called a Chromebook. I immediately sent John a text and asked if
it had its own operating system or was it a Windows abomination. I was informed that it is a Linux based unit
using Google’s own operating system. I
was also informed that Juan CAN get word processor and spread sheet programs
for it… and that the units are cheap.
Well duh, without having to pay Tiny and Flaccid for the “privilege” of
having Windows foist upon you, the laptop itself isn’t very expensive. I remember that Dell Linux machine I bought a
few years ago costing like half what a comparable Windows machine would
have. So, now I'm thinking about taking
that monitor back to Best Buy and getting one of those Chromebooks. I may try to drag John wit me to the nearest
Best Buy who carries them and have a look at one. Then again, I may not. We’ll see.
So, what now? Well, in gun news,
I've been looking at these 75 round drum magazines for the 7.62x39 Saiga,
right? The only place I've seen one
converted to work with the Saiga, and not set up for a regular AK-47, is
Mississippi Auto Arms. Everyone else has
the regular drums which, for some reason, won't work in a Saiga. Well, this morning I got the wild hair to buy
one. I went to the MAA website and had a
look at them. I remember them being in
the $100.00 to $150.00 range so the $129.95 price didn’t scare me off… like it
should have. Now, what really got to me
was the notation that there were only three in stock. No, I didn’t buy all three. What do you think I am, totally stupid? I bought two of them though. Yeah, I'm dumb. But hey!
I'll be able to load up 150 more rounds of 7.62x39 ammo and be even that
much more readier for the zombie apocalypse!
See, unlike a regular stick magazine, or the drums for the Saiga 12,
these have a little winder thingy for the main spring. You can load the sum-bitch up but the spring
isn’t in tension until you are ready to shoost.
Well, I can't think of anything else to say so I guess I'll just call it
a rant for the day. I'll try to come
talk to y'all tomorrow since I'm taking all next week off and probably won't
have anything until I get back. We’ll
see.
