5/30/13
Apparently I saved it for
tomorrow. I also noticed that I left
something out when talking about the Saiga 12s and the Russian. I'd said I wondered if we could make a road
trip to Houston to pick them up and shoot them on the Russian’s range. Well, it turns out that the “range” he uses
is someone’s land and he didn’t feel comfortable asking if customers could
shoot there. I totally understood and
said we’d just pick up the guns at the next show in a month. So, Monday “morning” I finally roll out of
bed. Mom tells me she’s meeting a couple
from the church at Mimi’s for lunch and that we can go see the doctor after
that. I agree, clean up, and dress. We meet them and eat. I had some very nice Chicken Marsala (not to
be confused with the Chicken Tikka Masala [no “r”] I had for lunch Wednesday)
Crepes. After lunch, since we still
hadn’t heard from the doctor, I took mom to see the new shop location. She, like Larry, didn’t think it looked too
bad. I guess I'm just looking at the
place through… what would be the opposite of “Rose Colored Glasses”? Anyhoo, after that we were still at a loose
end with regards to the doctor. I said,
“Why don’t we see what Car Toys would charge to install that satellite radio in
your car?” She was on board for that. We stopped in and I got the quote. It was high but I sure didn’t want to mess
with doing the installation. I said we’d
be back with another car so we could leave hers. We went home and I hopped in Fiona to follow
her back to Car Toys. We dropped the car
off and as we were leaving finally heard from the doctor. He could meet her at 1600 h (it was about
1400 h at this point) or she could come in in the morning. She opted for morning. We went home.
Now had I known it would take another four hours to install that radio,
I would have gone to the range and sighted in the 7.62x39 rifle’s new
optic. As it was, I wound up wasting the
entire afternoon. Around 1800 h, I
called Car Toys to get an update and was told they were just finishing up and
it would be ready in half an hour. At
1830 h they called back to say it was ready.
We headed back to pick it up. I
paid and the guy showed mom how it worked.
She asked if I would stop at Chicken Excess for dinner and I said I
would… after I went back in to ask him a quick question about my car. I want a subwoofer to supplement the bass in
Fiona. L’Trimm’s “Cars That Go Boom” has
a continuous rumbling bass line which the factory system just almost
reproduces… but not quite. Wait, did I
just say that? Why would I reference a
song I've never heard nor would have any reason to think might get played in
Fiona? It’s not like it is on my
i-Pod. Um, let’s see… ah! Bach’s “Toccata and Fugue” has this
continuous rumbling bass line which the factory system just almost reproduces…
but not quite. Yeah, that’s it. So I want a little more subwoofer. For the Bach… and stuff. The sales dude showed me some stuff and
worked up a price. Yeah, I'm not ready
to drop $801.00 on a subwoofer right now.
I took off for Chicken Excess not realizing the “quick question” turned
out to take half an hour! By the time CE
chased down the chickens, prepped them for the fryer, fried them, sold them to
me, and I got home, it was 1730 h! We
ate and I wasted the rest of the evening with BBC America. Tuesday and Wednesday were usual work days so
there isn’t much to report… except that mom did finally make it to see the
doctor. Apparently even HE couldn’t see
anything in her ear nor could he get it out.
He referred her to an audiologist who had the right equipment to dig the
thing out… which they did… apparently.
Today I had a Marketing Town Hell to baby sit and one other dude to get
set up at 1230 h. John had told me that
he was taking Thursday and Friday off this week and since we moved the tools
out of the shop, there wasn’t anything he could do down there. Sorry dude.
He asked if I would be free for lunch, which I was. He picked me up after I set up the dude at
1230 h, which turned out to be closer to 1300 h by the time I finished, and we
went to the sushi buffet down the road.
He also wanted to swing by the AT&T store to replace Samantha’s cell
phone which didn’t fare too well when dropped in coffee. We ate too much sushi, as we are wont to do,
and then did the phone thing. I was back
at the office by 1400 h so it wasn’t even a terribly long lunch. Huzzah.
Well, that about wraps things up for this month so I guess I'll call it
a rant. I'll talk to y'all again Monday.
