When we last left our intrepid adventurers, we were headed to Mexican Inn for
lunch. The MI we decided on was the one
on Lancaster Avenue. It was further
decided that we would trek through uncharted, by us at least, territory and
take the surface streets. As we
approached MI, I noticed the building next door had a “For Sale” sign out
front. As I passed, I noticed it was a
sort of split-level affair with the “ground floor” at street level became the
second floor at the back. I wondered if
there might be a rollup door on the lower level. I drove to the back of the MI parking lot to
see. It did. I made a mental note of that and drove to
park next to John. He asked why I'd
driven to the back of the MI parking lot so I told him about the building next
door. We ate then decided to go grok the
place. It used to be the meeting house
for Plumbers and Steamfitters Union. We
couldn’t see much into the office area except that it was an office area. We walked around the back and checked out the
lower level. There was a rollup door to
a large open space underneath… something, we knew not what. It was a really cool building and I really
wanted more information about it.
Yesterday I called the realtor and asked. The upstairs area we couldn’t see, above the
open area, was a great hall, meeting space type area which had recently been
renovated. The offices were also
recently done. There is something like
1,800 square feet of office, 3,200 square feet of meeting hall, and another
3,200 feet of open area below. The guy
didn’t know if the office could be converted to living space, which would be
the plan were I to buy it, and said I'd have to take that up with the
city. Then the hammer fell… or should I
say 480,000 hammers? Yep, the place is
going for almost half a million bucks.
Needles to say, I cannot afford that… at least I don’t think I can
afford that. No, I cannot afford that…
even if I could… sort of thing. So,
there’s that not going on and we move back into the narrative. Remember how I am a fucktard because I broke
the sear off of the hammer on my new gun?
Well, I brought it along with me Saturday to shop gunsmiths. The first place I decided to try was
Winchester Gallery as they are also on Lancaster Avenue. I went there.
The gunsmith took a look at the gun and was obsessed with the fact that
the thing didn’t lock into battery. I
told him that was issue number two.
Issue number one was the fact that it wouldn’t lock into full cock
either. I told him I had a new trigger
and hammer on the way and wanted to know if they would install them. He asked if I wanted a “Trigger Job” or just
the installation. I said the most
important bit was the installation but if the faces got smoothed up a bit, I
wouldn’t complain. He said the
installation would be $20.00 and a couple days, the trigger job would be more
and go on a four week waiting list.
“Just the installation, please.” I said.
So I filled out the paperwork and left the thing promising to return
with the hammer and trigger when they arrive.
Yes, I know I said I was shopping for a gunsmith and that Winchester was
going to be my first stop… we all know I'm not a shopper, I'm going with the
first thing I come across. So… shut
up. My parts are in the area at a UPS
sorting facility, at least last time I checked the routing number, but aren’t
on the truck for delivery. They might be
now but… oh, never mind. I'm thinking I
might polish the hammer and trigger a wee bit myself before taking them to the
gunsmith. We’ll see. So, I guess that’s about all there is to say
for today.
