So I’m sitting here in the
Bored Room wasting the last hour and a half of the day. I had a meeting across the street at 1400 h
and decided I was not going to go back to my office afterwards. When that meeting didn’t take as long as I
intended, I drug the laptop out of the car and decided to camp out here. Larry wants me to order something for him
from the intergoogles but someone has locked everyone out of the wireless
system. I need to give it about fifteen
minutes to reset then I’ll try again.
Well, the idiot in chief of these here United States has gone and banned
the importation of products built by The Kalashnikov Group in Russia. TKG used to be Izhmash, the makers of Saiga
shotguns and rifles. The long and the
short of this is: There ain’t gonna be any more Saigas coming into the
country. I predict that every Saiga 12
on the shelves of all the gun stores have jumped in price from around $650.00
to well over a grand each… and the converted ones are probably going to be more
than Tavors now. I won’t be surprised to
see $2,500.00 price tags at the next show… if I see any of the guns at
all! The other thing about this piece of
news is: My 7.62x39 Saiga is no longer for sale… at least not for less than two
grand. My calculations show that I have
$1825.00 or so in it, and I’m not going to be able to replace it, so I am
certainly not willing to sell it at a loss.
In fact, $3,000.00 is the new minimum price to buy my Saiga. There was a guy at the last gun show
interested in it. He called earlier in
the week asking more questions. I sent
him some pictures and his nephew wanted to take a look. We met in the Walmart parking lot so they
could grok the thing. Unfortunately, or
now that I think about it, fortunately the nephew wanted a regular AK not a
bullpup. They kept asking if I still had
all the parts to convert it back. I
said, “If you want a regular AK, go buy a regular AK. You will be wasting money and time buying and
reconverting this gun.” The very next
day the ban was announced. I literally
would have lost $1,000.00 selling the gun that night… and probably would have
tried out the flavor of one of my other guns when I realized what the ban could
potentially mean to the Saiga’s value!
So yeah, I’m keeping the 7.62x39 Saiga… is what I’m trying to say. I have been “in hate” with the safety on that
gun ever since I put it in the Kushnapup stock however. The trigger had about an inch of travel when
the safety was on. It wouldn’t drop the
hammer, but it did have way too much movement for my liking. Last night I tried out a couple different
safety levers I had lying around. The
one I liked the best wouldn’t work because of an extension thingy. I wound up removing the offending piece of
metal and now I’m much happier with the lever.
I think I’m going to take the gun to the shop tomorrow and shoot the
hell out of Lil’ Wiggly… wait, no! I’m
going to trim the bolt hold-open notch so that pulling back on the bolt will
partially disengage the safety and allow the bolt to move into battery. Don’t worry, it makes sense to me… and I’m
all that matters. So there. Well, it has been at least half an hour since
I last tried to log in to the wireless so I think I’m going to call this a rant
and go try again. Have a day.
