6/26/14

So, we’re ready for the tale of Sunday, I assume.  Larry’s mother hasn’t been doing all that well so he wasn’t sure if he was going to make it to the gun show… he called around 0845 h to say he was getting ready to go but wasn’t sure if his truck would start.  My offer to go pick him up was declined.  I packed the Kel Tec Sub2000 and its four 33 round magazines in my computer bag, to see if it would all fit as well as to show it off to Larry, and grabbed the Spike’s Tactical AR lower to try and sell at the show.  My goal was to sell it for enough money to buy a Timney trigger for the Tavor… or a bag of unicorn turds, either item being just as likely to be found at the show.  I headed to the credit onion to meet Larry and waited.  He arrived and I moved over to his truck… which apparently HAD started.  I showed him the Sub2k and he was impressed that it all fit in a laptop bag.  I wish I had remembered the 50 round drum magazine because that would have been even more impressive.  We went to the show.  I showed the AR lower to several people, all of whom said I should be able to get my $350.00 asking price, none of whom actually offered me any money for it.  We stopped at the Russian’s table (Texas Shooter’s Supply out of Houston) and I asked if he had a Tavor trigger group thinking he might have put a Timney in one he was selling and might have the takeout.  He did not.  I did not ask him to make an offer on the lower because I didn’t think he was doing ARs… he was.  Anyhoo, we moved on.  I found the guys with whom I had conversed on Texas Gun Trader but they thought I had a stripped lower, not a complete.  They weren’t able to offer me anything for it nor did they have the trigger for which I sought.  I kept walking.  A few rows later I was approached by an individual asking about my “gun.”  He looked it over and asked what I wanted for it.  When I told him $350.00 he said that was top dollar and broke it down part by part.  His assessment was $300.00 so I asked if he would offer that for it.  He did and we shook on the deal.  I walked away with three bills and he had a “new” toy.  I began shopping in earnest for… well, anything really.  Two tables after selling the lower, I came across the ammo re-loader guy from whom I have bought in the past.  I was going to ask if he re-loaded .50 Beowulf to see if it would behoove me to look for a .50 Beowulf upper for the AR.  I didn’t expect him to have any thus prompting the sale… he did.  Oh well, I didn’t need a .50 caliber AR anyway.  I kept walking.  I looked at a couple .22 caliber rifles which caught my fancy.  Ruger makes a bolt-action rifle which uses the same magazines as their 10/22.  I was shopping for one of them.  I found a few in my price range but had asked Larry to keep me on track shopping for a Tavor trigger group.  After we had walked the whole show, stopping for lunch when we got to the middle of course, we went back to look at some things we’d seen earlier.  I grokked the Ruger .22s while he looked at… hell, I don’t know, stuff.  Eventually I decided to go talk to the Russian again.  He had some bent-handle bolts for the Mosin Nagant which I wanted to check out.  I almost bought the black powder-coated set but wound up getting a complete unit for the same as just the black bolt handle and cocking piece.  Sure, the black would have looked really, REALLY awesome, but… meh, whaddayagonnado?  So having “spent” 2/3 of my profits (once a $100.00 bill is broken I consider it spent) I decided I didn’t have enough money to show any more.  I convinced Larry that he didn’t need anything and we left.  Oh, and they closed the show and threw us out.  Now I need to decide if I’m going to keep telling y’all stuff or save it for tomorrow.  Hmm, yeah even though it’s only 1045 h, I’m going to call it a rant because the next story is getting a little long winded.
