11/20/14

Oh yeah.  There’s this thing that I used to do.  “This” this thing.  The blog.  Anyhoo, so what did I do over the weekend… and most of this week?  Well, Gregg flaked on the gun show for Saturday so I didn’t do that.  I don’t remember what I did all day, but it wasn’t that.  I did discover that I broke the firing pin on the SKS while doing all that dry-firing when testing the trigger.  Oops.  I unloaded the magazine and pulled the pin so I could have a look at it at the shop.  I ground off the mushrooming and reinstalled it in the gun then went to Winchester Gallery gun range to test it out.  The optics were WAY off.  Once I got them close to where they needed to be, the gun quit firing.  Yeah, turns out I broke the firing pin again, in a different location.  I pulled it out and tossed it aside figuring I would get another at the gun show on Sunday.  Oh, the window seals for Scooby Two came in as well.  I installed them while I was at the shop before going to the range.  I’m not 100% sure about how I have it done though.  I’ll consult with John and see what he has to say about them.  Larry flaked on the gun show Sunday but I went ahead and… went.  I decided that of all my guns, I could live without the H&R single shot .45-70 rifle.  It was also the only thing in the case that I thought might fetch some money.  I packed it, and all of the .45-70 ammo, up and went to the show.  It took a while but I wound up selling it for $425.00 which, ignoring the cost of the ammo, was only about a $10.00 loss.  A few rows later I found a $300.00 EOTech optic.  She was keen to sell and asked me to make an offer.  I said, “$200.00?” and she said, “No.”  She counter offered $250.00 so I went for it.  I figure half price isn’t a bad deal… if it works.  Turns out it did so… yeah.  Good deal.  A few rows after that I saw that Extar 5.56x45 AR pistol for which I had lust a while back.  Had I not bought the EOTech, I would have had enough to get it!  I’m going with, “Whew!” and considering it a “dodged bullet” as it were.  I do not need that thing, no matter how friggin’ cool it is!  Anyhoo, I found an SKS firing pin and something else… oh, I found one of those “Credit Card Knives” which fold up/out into a credit card shaped… card, to go in your wallet.  Never mind, I thought it was cool.  I’m sure I bought something else insignificant as well but I can’t remember what it was now.  No, the only other thing I bought was dumb.  I bought a Ruger 10/22 Takedown.  That would be a Ruger 10/22 which splits in half in front of the action so as to take up half the space in a bag or pack or something.  I’ve wanted one for a while and when I saw this one for $319.00 I pounced on it.  They were selling at other tables for $350.00 by the way.  So, with all my swag in hand, I headed home.  There I installed the firing pin in the SKS but didn’t reload it.  I’m going to take it to the range to make sure the pin is good to go before I commit.  I also put the EOTech on the 7.62x39 Saiga, the Trijicon from the Saiga on the SKS, and the Meprolight from the SKS on the new Ruger.  I really dig the semi-tactical nature of that new rifle!  I told Larry about it and he asked if I was going to get a pistol-grip stock for it.  I hadn’t really thought about it until then but once I started looking I decided that I would.  I stopped off at the new Gander Mountain on Quebec Street to see if they had one.  I knew they wouldn’t, but went anyway.  When I did find the Tapco 10/22 stock on the shelf, I assumed it was for the regular 10/22 and kept looking.  When I went back however, it WAS for the Takedown!  I consulted the wallet to see just how much of the money from the H&R was left and found I was $50.00 short.  I thought about going to an ATM, or using the debit card for the balance, but decided that I would rather eat lunch the rest of this week and next.  In other words, I did the adult/responsible thing and walked away from something.  Yeah, I know!  Kooky, right?  Imagine that, me being responsible with money.  It boggles the mind.  So, I guess that gets y’all caught up.  I doubt I’ll be talking again until Monday when I’ll tell y’all about what John and I did over the weekend.  Have a day.
