6/7/10

I cannot believe I wasted that whole weekend. Well, Saturday wasn't a total waste since John and I did get the HL-A10 Violet to the crusher. We met up at the shop and hooked up the trailer to Fifi then unloaded Super Karate-Monkey Death Car. We removed some stuff from the Violet and then loaded it onto the trailer and tied it off. At the crusher we found out they were paying $105.00 a ton for scrap! We had been planning on just $35.00 a ton and were only expecting to make up gas money and maybe part of lunch. It was quite a pleasant surprise. I considered trying to load the PL-510 wagon full of crap and making a second trip but it was too hot and I knew John was probably pressed for time. When we got back to the shop to drop the trailer, it was decided that we’d have lunch at Campo Verde. Yes, the closest Campo Verde is the one in Arlington and yes, we did have to drive right back past the very same junkyard we’d just left. Meh, what are you going to do? From there we went our separate ways and I wasted the rest of the day in front of the TV. Sunday, I wasted the whole morning in front of the TV and then went to lunch with mom. Sunday afternoon... I wasted in front of the TV. Gregg called at some point and I had an idea. Actually, I'd had the idea earlier but hadn't really realized it. I asked him how he felt about the Chickenhawk as his race car instead of Lil' Wiggly. He began to drool. “I would rather see it revived as a race car than sit and rot behind the shop,” I told him. Unfortunately, the more we discussed it, the less it looked like a good plan. The car has been sitting for the last ten years and would need a pretty thorough once-over. He just wants to slap the bad ass engine in Lil' Wiggly and go racing. I don't know what will happen with regards to that plan. I told him to let the idea fester in his head for a week and let me know. I think the idea has some merit, and have just about convinced myself it won't take as much work as he’s thinking, but I just don't know. I do know the Chickenhawk would be a faster car than Lil' Wiggly with that engine, apples to apples. But the fact that Lil' Wiggly is a “drop in” affair versus the small amount of engineering we’d need to do on the Chickenhawk makes him think it would take a lot longer. I wish I knew his buddy Dave’s number. I'd call him and have him say to Gregg, “You can get the Chickenhawk as your race car? What are you waiting for?” or something. I think after he’s had a week to think about it, especially if someone else is on board, he’ll gopher it. I don't know, we’ll see. It won't surprise me if he wants to buy it anyway in the next month or so just to revive it. I gave him a price which is probably too high for the car but is probably too low nonetheless. He agreed to it and that’s where we stand right now. With any luck, next weekend he’ll come pick up the Chickenhawk and give me a whopping sum of money. At the very least I think he’s planning to pick up Lil' Wiggly and give me a lesser sum. Either way, I think I might be visiting the “Travel Agents” at the next gun show to finally buy “my” lever-action .45 Colt Carbine. I know, I'm dumb.
