2/16/11

Frerbrurary 16, 2011 So I get a message from a FaceBuick friend saying he sees a turquoise B-210 hatchback all the time up in Wichita Falls. I asked him to give the guy my e-mail address so I can be first in line when he wants to sell it. I'm not holding my breath that it’ll happen any time soon though. But, Juan never knows. I've also been giving more thought to the 5.0 in Barbecue Bob. I think with enough torque, I could live with a slush-box transmission. I may be deluding myself but here’s my thinking. The reason I didn't like the automatic in the Pimpmobile (the ‘05 Dodge Magnum I used to own, for those of you with short attention spans) was that the 3.5 liter V6 had just adequate power for the weight of the vehicle. Any time I wanted to roll into the throttle on the freeway, it had to kick down a gear or two. I hate that. I'd rather hear the rort of the intake than have the thing go “Buh-WAAAAAAAAAAAA!” at the least little prod of the throttle. I'm not saying I never want it to kick down, au contraire mon frere. If I'm really giving it the beans and want to get the thing moving, I want more revs and more speed now. But trying to go from a 65 mph cruise to a 75 mph pass, I don't need the thing down shifting two gears and letting the whole world know what’s what. Having said all of that, I think a 5.0 in Barbecue Bob, with the kick down lever/cable/vacuum thingy/whatever set properly, will give me roll-on rort rather than kick down sound and fury. Of course a five speed would be better, but I'm thinking expedience here. Besides, if I hated it I could always sell it. I don't know, we’ll see. I just got an e-mail, literally just now, asking for cars to be in a film reenactment of something from 1963. Unfortunately, all of my running vehicles are too new. In fact, all but one of my vehicles are too new, now that I think about it. Oh well. I'm not even sure why I mention it, except that I've got nothing else to talk about. Hmm, what’s going on in my world that y'all need to know about? Well, I've been working on the dome house/shop plans some more. I think I've decided that I'd rather have the house made from five 16.5’ domes rather than the three 16.5 footers and one 20’ dome. It raises the cost a bit, but not as much as I'd feared. I also played with the idea of making one dome a double-decker with a “sitting room” and half bath sort of thing on the first floor and a home theater on the second. I like it a lot but it sure as hell would be expensive, I'll bet. The all single story home still has the “sitting room” and half bath dome, but that would also be the TV room. I'm narrowing it down to a “final” rendering. Of course we all know I'll probably wind up in a steel building with a mobile home next to it, but this is fun to play with. OK, the way things are progressing, I'll probably wind up in a pine box under six feet of dirt before anything actually happens. Yes, that is just an analogy. I'd rather be cremated and sprinkled various places around the country than buried. I have a list. But that’s a tale for another day since it is now 1630 h and I'm ready to go home. Toodles.
