My apologies to John for accusing him of being lax in his duties (tee hee, I said doodies) as far as steering me towards a Hyundai Genesis Coupe in 2008. Apparently, as he pointed out to me, Hyundai didn't introduce the Genesis Coupe until 2009 so he COULDN’T have steered me towards one when I was in the market in January of 2008. So, sorry about that. Anyhoo, I'm really digging having, what to me is, an abundance of power. Yesterday I was tooling along in the middle lane, doing about 65-70 with traffic when suddenly a wild “Slower Car” appeared in my lane. The left lane had a few miles per hour on me when I slowed behind this car, he was probably doing 60 or so, and I waited for a gap to the left. As it appeared I rolled onto the throttle, still in sixth gear mind you, and squirted into the gap at virtually the same speed as the car now in front of and behind me. I smiled. I rolled back over into the middle lane and let the lefties continue on with their day once I was past the slow car. “So what?” you are probably saying. Well, I haven’t had the torque to do that... hmm, probably since the Chickenhawk days. Come to think of it, I haven’t had a two-door daily driver since the Chickenhawk days either. I've been saddled with four-door, “under powered” cars since 1996! it is about time I took my balls back. Of course I'm not counting the two Fjord Rangers I had as they were pickup trucks, not cars. Sure, I used them as daily driver “cars,” but... your face is a two-door car. And shut up, it’s my blog. Also, I used quotes up there because, while the Subaru was no slouch in the power arena, it couldn't hold a candle to this car’s output. The Pimpmobile probably came close, but it weighed several hundred pounds more than Jenny and had a “Granny Tranny.” In fact, the automatic’s tendency to down shift when I tried just such a maneuver was the Pimpmobile’s downfall in my mind. Well, that and I discovered the Versa came with a with a six-speed manual. I do not regret my time spent in Versae. They were adequate cars, quite fun, powerful enough (although just barely I'm suddenly realizing), and until recently, somewhat unique. I see way too many of them on the road now for the “Hipster” in me to tolerate. No, the Versae were not mistakes. Well, perhaps buying Ms. Clio while not having a solid, dependable buyer for Matilda (my first Versa) was not the smartest thing I could have done. But I do not regret having the car. Mom asked me to list all the cars I've had as daily drivers in the past. I did. There was the 1973 Fjord Courier pickup I was provided in high school. My brother had named it the Hiccup. Then I bought the 1976 Mercury Capri which I called the Indy Car because it was ND, Neon Dick green. In 1985 I bought my first new car, an ‘85 Dodge Shelby Charger, Myrtle. Next I think would be the Tick, a 1985 Toyota Pickup. Then the Chickenhawk came along. That would be a 1973 Datsun 1200 with the 2.0 liter engine from a 1980 Datsun 510. Damn, that car was fast. In 1996 I bought a nameless blue, four-cylinder Fjord Ranger. In 1998 I bought a black, V6 Fjord Ranger, also nameless if I remember correctly. In 1999, during the rainy season, I got tired of the back window leaking on my neck and flooding the cockpit and traded it in. That brings us to the 1998 Subaru 2.5 GT called, uninspired enough, Scooby-Doo. When its air filter caught fire in the Red Hot and Blue parking lot, I began driving Maxine, a 1984(?) Nissan Maxima wagon. Then I got the wild hair up my butt and wanted to see how those new Chargers drove. I saw an all wheel drive Magnum on the lot and was hooked. Yeah, until I drove it with mom. The AWD system added another ton to the car and the V6 was really struggling. On the way home from that test drive, mom suggested I look at the Vanilla White, 2005 Magnum on the Honda used car lot by the house. I bought it and it became the Pimpmobile. Matilda was next in the summer of 2006. Then in December 2007 I got the hots for a two-door coupe and set my sights on a V6 Altima Coupe. As we were driving to buy it, John made his feeling clear that he didn't approve of the “Secretary Car” I was getting. I was a bit taken aback, and was convinced when he compared it to a Fjord Probe or Mitsubishi Eclipse. I told him, “Ok, if there is a black six speed Versa on the lot, I'll buy it instead.” That would be how I came to have Ms. Clio, or Darth Versa as it was called originally. And now I'm in Jenny, my 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. So, how many is that? Hmm, I would have thought it to be more than thirteen. I guess I'm still thinking about the dozens of other cars which never really saw daily driver duty (tee hee, I said doody). Well, I've got to pee and there is a meeting coming up so I guess I'm done talking to y'all for today.
