4/18/12

Holy crap! Is it only Wednesday? Feh! This week is taking FOREVER! It figures, we get Lil' Wiggly to the point of nearly ready and now we’re not spending enough time at the shop. A few weeks ago I was looking for excuses to NOT go to the shop, now I want to revive the weekday evening shop nights. Oh well, what are you going to do? So I was looking over my expenses last night and I really need to cut back somewhere. Yep, here comes another “Cull the herd” rant. Ok, first off I really do not need a Goldwing trike. That wacky project really should get shit-canned before it sucks up any money… ok, any MORE money. I'm a Datsun guy, and more specifically, a Datsun 1200 guy. The Spit’ should be sold off as is, where is. Oh hell, I'll even deliver it for the right money. That money being anything over the $100.00 I paid for it, most likely. Lil' Wiggly is cool and all, and it is a Datsun, but it isn’t a 1200. It probably should go up for sale… after I get a chance to hoon it a bit, of course. Although it IS a Datsun 1200, Herman is a stupid project. It really should go away. Now, the one that makes the most practical sense, selling off wise, is The Seven. It is the one toy vehicle with any value. Selling it for enough to… shit, who am I kidding? I can't sell The Seven. Selling Fifi doesn’t make any sense unless I sell the trailer too. Then I'd be without a truck and trailer though. I like having a truck and trailer available whenever I need them. The Chickenhawk and George are likely the two true keepers… well, and The Seven of course. True, it is strictly sentimental value, but they are the ones I don’t see leaving me unless the shit REALLY hits the fan. Ok, so how does all this help the financial situation? None of them, save for The Seven perhaps, would bring anywhere near enough money to get me out of debt. Hell, even a highly unlikely “top dollar” price for The Seven would only get me MOSTLY out of debt. No, what I need is to be out from under the $600.00 a month shop. Culling the herd makes a smaller shop more doable. I just erased a bit of “ball busting” about… well, never mind. So, where does this leave me? If the Burkett house wasn’t a) so much too big for me and a cat, and 2) going to be such a potential money pit, I'd revive the “build a shop next to the house” idea. Of course that would mean storing unsightly vehicles on the back patio which could cause grief with neighbors in the future. No, what makes the most sense, short of ditching ALL of the toys or building a shop/apartment, is finding a cheaper shop for me and John (and Pat perhaps) to share. If there isn’t sufficient storage for the back-burner cars, a simple storage facility spot for them would then be in order. Ok, here’s what we need. We need a two bay (three if we include Pat) shop with space to store one or two other cars… each? Alternately, we need a two or three bay shop and a couple storage bays in a separate facility. Hopefully the storage facility would be close enough to the main shop to be convenient, but I'm easy on that front as long as we have Fifi and the trailer. Of course we don’t want the storage facility to be hours away from the main shop, but a few miles wouldn’t break my spirit. Ideally, the storage facility would be close to home so that “finished” projects can live there but still be easily accessible for hooning. Well, my back teeth are floating and it is approaching lunchtime. I think I'm going to call it a rant and go to lunch. Have a day.
