4/4/12
Juan might notice that I forewent my usual April Fool rant this year. Yes, I did actually go through all of that on Monday. Yes, it was just as unpleasant as I described it. In fact, it was probably worse since it was happening to me. Anyhoo, I realized I hadn’t told y'all about the trip to Oklahomo Saturday. First off, I went to the shop after work on Friday to pick up the trailer. I had promised the dude who bought Nadine that I would look to see if we had any more of those 14” styled steel wheels from a 200SX since he liked the way the two I'd put on Nadine looked. I had a quick whip round and saw that there are at least two more of them and maybe three. I haven’t told him this yet though. I'm not sure why. So, with the trailer hooked to Fifi I headed home. I parked the rig and went in for dinner and stuff. Saturday morning I picked John up at 0745 h or so and we headed north-ish. I thought we were going to take I-35 to OKC and then west as we did when we delivered the car but we took 287 to Wichita Falls and then north instead. The fog was thicker than I have ever seen it. No, that isn’t quite true. The thickness of the fog was remarkable, and we did thus remark on it, but it was the extent that was unbelievable. We couldn’t see more than a few hundred feet in any direction. In fact, it was so bad that Decatur looked almost identical to the open road! You could barely make out the buildings and such on the sides of the road. We forged ahead. In Wichita Falls we veered off of 287 onto I-44 and headed north. Yes, I know even numbered interstates run east and west, not north and south, but that’s what the roads did at that point. From then on, all the way to Weatherford Oklahomo, I just followed John's navigation and drove. At one point the road felt to me like it turned 180° so I was sure we were totally backtracking. Apparently I was not as correct as I could have been because we did eventually make it to the place. We loaded the car onto the trailer and tied it off. John, deciding that we weren’t going to make Paul’s Valley and The Pig Stop before they closed, asked if the guys knew of any good sushi in the area. They did not. We took off towards OKC and I looked on the intergoogles for sushi nearby. A place was found not far off our course in OKC so we headed that direction. It was closed. We wound up in downtown Oklahomo City at a place called “In the Raw.” It was quite good but as usual, I could have eaten twice as much as we ordered. It was plenty, and we were full, but I still could have eaten more. We even commented on that fact but both decided to be good and stop. We headed south again and stopped at the Superhero Museum and store in Paul’s Valley. Meh, it was kind of a waste of time. From what we could see from the store, the museum didn’t seem like a bargain at $8.00 each. We passed. Back on the road and eventually to John's house. We dropped the car and I headed to the shop with the trailer. It was dark when I finally dropped it off and went home. Sunday I met Pat and Tony at the Awful House on Western Center by the railroad so we could go to the swap meet. We dropped Fiona at the railroad and then headed to LaGrave. It was a very sparse event. We spoke to George for a bit then walked the aisles. When we’d seen it all, we talked to George again then went to Fuzzy’s Tacos for lunch. We hung out there for the next three or four hours. They dropped me back at my car and I debated going in to leave a note for my coverage guy. I decided not to for some reason. I did go into the Employee Center to pee. Oh, I remember why I didn’t want to go in; I had Heldey LaMarr in a holster on my hip. I called John to see if he were home so I could drop Kurt Corto (my Kel Tec P3AT pistol) for John Ullom. He was so I did. From there I decided to go ahead and stop at the railroad to leave the note after all. I slipped Heldey LaMarr into the pocket of the door before getting out of the car and went in to the War Room, supposedly the first place my guy was to go in the morning. I left him the note and headed out. It was rapidly approaching time to go to the JNC event at Freebird’s. I ran home, changed shoes, and rolled The Seven outside. I put the top on and headed across town yet again. I was the first to arrive. I shot Jeff a text to make sure we were still on and he said he’d be right there. He pulled in just behind an old Volkswagen Beetle. I was just about to joke to him that we were going to have a VW at the event when I realized we WERE. It was Tim from Lewisville, the guy who usually rides the Honda Cub. Eventually, a CRX, which had been there before, and a really nice Datsun pickup, which hadn’t, showed up. We all talked and then went in for food. We ate outside and then all left. You already know how my Monday went so now we’re all caught up.
