5/3/12
Well, my choke cable arrived yesterday.
I'm not 100% sure six feet is going to be long enough. I have to get from the dash to the firewall,
then from the firewall to the FRONT of the front carburetor pulling
forward. I'm concerned about the possibility
of another gang war… wait, no that’s a line from an Art of Noise song. I'm concerned that there isn’t enough room
for it to make the “U” turn and pull smoothly.
I guess we’ll see on Saturday. As
I said the other day, if necessary I can always make an extension like I did
originally on The Seven. I just erased a
bit of speculation on making a way to pull the choke rearward instead of
forward. It is definitely a “better felt
than tell’t” situation. I will take a
look at it, if necessary, and tell y'all how it works, if it does, later. It wouldn’t be the first “reverse pull” cable
thingy I've had to build. The parking
brake on The Seven has something similar to what I'm seeing for the choke. I think I did it on The Seven for packaging
porpoises though. But come to think of
it, that’s what I have here as well.
Never mind. So, I guess we’ll
replace the license plates, try to install the choke cable, and hopefully make
a throttle linkage for the front carburetor on Saturday. I'm not too optimistic about the lever arm
arriving from Italy in time for the last item to happen though. Oh, speaking of replacing the license plates,
I had an idea about the gap-filler on the front. I'd like to do what John and I were thinking,
put a flat plate thingy across the opening, but instead of it being just a
solid white expanse, I think we otter put one of those Datsun door stripes
across there. I'll even let John do the
one across the hatch like he wants… if he’s willing to part with two kits that
is. I wouldn’t be opposed to connecting
the stripes down the side of the car either.
We’ll disgust it, I'm sure. Of
course, just painting a license plate blank would solve the issue without
having to resort to fabricating anything new for the nose. I like having the extra opening for more air
to get in to the radiator, but I'm not sure how necessary it actually is. At one point, John suggested essentially
“decommissioning” the “WIGGLY” plate by painting over everything but the word
“WIGGLY.” I'm just not sure about the
legality of that. We did test fit a 1200
bumper to the front, and it looked like it would fit pretty well, but I just
wasn’t feeling it. John, of course,
loved it. Well, if he buys the car, he
can put one on there. I won't. I was also thinking about putting in a faux
roll cage to add to the faux racecar affectation. I suppose I could look for an actual roll
hoop for a B-210. Hmm, I may go see what
is available. Of course as soon as John
reads this I'll have links to all sorts of roll hoops and cages in my
inbox. He sent several links to master
kill switches the other day. I'm not
sure why I didn’t buy one then. I guess
my pig-headedness overruled my instant-gratification urge. I want to prove that the Boys of Pep and/or
O’Rielley’s carry them. Prove it to
myself, not to anyone else. Ok, so I
guess I'll be off to them intergoogles to look for roll hoops and/or cages for
a B-210… as if I can afford one. Talk to
y'all later.
