7/5/12
I am not even going to go into what went on yesterday. Suffices to say, I did not have a good day
off. Ok, I'll give the short version:
nephew’s wife and kids… ‘nuff said.
Anyhoo, Sunday morning I met John at the shop. Actually, I beat him there so I began to
clean up the place a little. I took a
bunch of trash out to Fifi and was putting away all the tools I could find when
he showed up. I think we continued to
clean until the 210 dude showed up and we got to work giving him a bunch of
stuff. When he left, we removed the head
from Lil' Wiggly and swapped the valves from it back into the albatross
head. Then we took the “long” valves
we’d found, lapped them, and installed them in the “new” head. Before we torqued down the “new” head, we
gave a cursory look at the valve lash.
They were still a little sloppy but I fingered they would draw up some
when the head was torqued. They
did. We decided that we’d done enough
and called it a day. From the shop we
went to the Mobil station and filled up both vehicles then went different
routes to try a different sushi place next to Red Hot & Blue. Yeah, apparently all sushi places are closed
on Sunday. We debated going to Taste
Aphasia but decided on RH&B instead since we were already there. Oh, John beat me to the restaurant by going
Hulen all the way, whereas I took Old Granbury to the freeway and then over to
Hulen. We’re not sure if it was a fair
test though since John caught every light green and I stopped for the yellow at
the freeway and OGR. Anyhoo, after
eating we went our separate ways. I
stopped off at a couple places to see if they would take my used motor
oil. Vato Zone would… but only five
gallons… per day. I emptied the three
one gallon jugs but forewent messing with the 15 gallon drum. Oh yeah, while at the shop, John and I loaded
the fifteen gallon waste oil drum into the back of Fifi and tied it off. I might pump the thing into the single gallon
jugs and take them five at a time to Vato Zone.
We’ll see. As for the other
flammable liquids and paints, I think we’re just going to take all of them out
of the shop and not store any there.
They can't make me buy a flammable storage cabinet if I'm not storing
any flammable things. This weekend, I
think, the plan is for me to work on finishing up Lil' Wiggly while John clears
out all of those 510 spare parts he got from… um, Charlie? Anyhoo, all of those parts which got “dumped
temporarily” next to the door and welding table are going to be sorted
through. I think we’ll unload the rolling
“carburetor shelf” behind the door and either get rid of it or put it somewhere
other than behind the door. That otter
give the damned fire marshal plenty of room to walk to the circuit breaker box. Then the only thing within the 48” corridor
to, and surrounding, the breakers will be the well. If he has a problem with that, then it is the
landlord’s issue to deal with. THAT
would be the absolute last straw for Beenbroke if I were somehow to be held
responsible for that. Speaking of
moving, Pat called the other day to ask if I wanted to go look at a potential
shop space at Blue Mound Road and 287 up north of here. I did.
We did. It was not what we’re
looking for. Basically, if Juan were to
take one of the pull-through RV storage sheds at Beenbroke (yes I realize
anyone but John, Pat, and George won't know what I'm describing) and walled it
in with a roll up door, you’d have the “shop” we looked at. For a single person shop it MIGHT have
worked, but for the three of us… not so much.
I think he’s going to talk to a different leasing dude about one of the
regular shop-bay-with-office type places next week. We’ll see.
Oh yeah, I just remembered another thing we might do Saturday. If Fiona's wheel and horn kit arrive by then,
John is going to meet me at the house then we’ll caravan down in Fifi and
Fiona. Fifi to haul away more trash and
stuff, Fiona to get a new wheel. Well, I
guess that’s about all I have for today.
I'll talk to y'all again tomorrow.
