2/26/13

First off let me say that Mr. Paratestes was correct in pointing out my mistake yesterday.  The sentence should have read, “Have I mentioned that a Saiga rifle is too short in a Kushnapup stock if the tangs are removed unless a permanent barrel extension of some sort is installed?” or something to that effect.  Thank you sir.  Shall we move on?  Ok, a few years ago I used to frequent the Winchester Gallery guns store, right?  I did, don’t worry about it.  They had in their display case a pistol which I found interesting at the time but had no desire to own.  It was an AMT Auto Mag in .30 Carbine.  I filed that information away for a later date.  It is now a later date.  Another bit of backstory is now relevant.  When I took Dave Heeter to the gun show, also a few years back, he had a handful of .30 Carbine ammo in with the stuff he was selling.  None of the guns he was selling was in .30 Carbine so I'm not even sure why he had it.  I wound up taking it off his hands.  So now I'm sitting on 28 rounds of .30 Carbine ammo… well, I need a gun to shoot it, right?  I fingered I'd take a look to see if Winchester Gallery still had the AMT when I took the flash hider to the gunsmith today.  Well, they don’t have it any more.  And now we pause the narrative to ask the burning question: Does he mean a) they sold it before he got there or 2) they don’t have it any more because he bought it?  I'll let y'all discuss it amongst yourselves and come up with an answer.  Doo dee doo doo, doo dee doo.  Doo dee doo dee DOOT, dee doodeedoodee.  Doo dee doo doo, doo dee doo.  Doot, doo doot, doo doo bum bum.  Ok, pencils down.  Who thinks they have the right answer?  Well the safe bet, knowing me, would be 2.  However that is not the case.  It was not there anymore when I arrived.  Damn.  Yes, I freely acknowledge that one of the dumbest reasons to buy a gun is because you have a handful of ammo for it… it wouldn’t be the first time I've done it, but yes, it is very dumb.  So we’ll move on again.  I dropped off the flash hider to the gunsmith and he tentatively said it would be ready Thursday.  I'm excited.  Last night I had a look at my gun cabinet and realized there was no way in hell the 7.62x39 Kushnapup would fit in there with the optics installed.  The Saiga 12 Kushnapup barely fits.  Well, it fits fine but the barrel just barely rests in the little divider thingies on the back wall and it is actually leaning against the wall on the “trigger guard.”  The 7.62x39 would be way too short to reach the dividers and the optic would foul the door.  “Ah!” thought I, “The door!”  I fingered I'd move the Neos .22 Carbine from the door inside the case standing against the divider thingies, and hang the 7.62x39 on the door.  I tried using the existing hanger I'm using for the Neos but it just won't work.  That is, I tried it with the Saiga 12 Kushnapup since the 7.62x39 is still at the gunsmith.  Anyhoo, just as I was crawling into bed I had a flash of genius: Mount a hook to the inside of the door and hang the gun from the rear sling mount!  I tried this with the 12 gauge and it worked a treat.  I do still have to mount a Velcro strap to secure the thing from swinging wildly about when opening and closing the door, but that shouldn’t be too tough.  So, now I have absolutely no more room for any more long guns in my cabinet.  I must refrain from buying any more.  Pistols?  For them I have room… not a lot, but some.  Unfortunately, the only remaining pistol I really want is a .50 Caliber… well, something.  Be it a .500 Magnum revolver or a .50 AE Dessert Eagle, I DO NOT have room for either of those.  Perhaps I'll find a little .22 revolver or bolt-action pistol which will fit.  Or I could just call my gun collection complete and go back to wasting… I mean “investing” money in the cars.  Feh, we’ll see I guess.  Ok, it is 1505 h and I have to pee.  I guess we’ll call it a rant  for today.
