I found a 1961 Mini on Craigslist and sent the link
to John. He replied back and asked if
we’re going to Little Elm on Saturday. I
said we’d sit on the ad for a bit because I really want a 1965 model [ Can you afford to be that picky? - SM ] . I’d also need to save up some cash to make that
purchase. He also sent back pictures…
well, a picture, of a Mini which has a Datsun 210 floor pan and drivetrain
grafted into it. I remembered him
talking about it in the past and that was one of the possible plans I had in
mind for my Mini. Today I remembered
that, in addition to his 210 destined for the scrapper, I have the junkyard
1200 which is little more than a floor pan already. I'm now thinking 1200 floor pan, A-14, and
welded 4.11 axle in a Mini as my fiftieth birthday present project. Of course I also have that 1,500cc Honda
Civic engine and transaxle which would power a Mini in a spritely manner. I wonder which would be easier to make
happen. I'm sure John and I will be
discussing this tomorrow. Hmm, I might
need to ask him to contact the guy with the ’61 Mini after all. Who knows, I might be able to low-ball him
and get into the thing for a grand. I
don’t know. I just sent John a text
asking if he took it upon himself to contact the dude when I sent the
link. I haven’t heard back. I probably should tap the brakes and wait for
the ’65 I really want. No, there isn’t
any difference between a ’61 and a ’65, I want one the same age as me. I know, you’re saying to yourself, “Didn’t he
just have a 1965 Spitfire?” Yes. Yes I did.
But with The Seven, another open LBC is totally superfluous. John has been trying to tell me that ever
since I got the thing. Once I realized
that fact, I also noticed just how much work that particular car needed… I
think. I don’t know. The point is, B. R. Eastman will be taking on
that project and I'm not looking back… well, not where he can see me at
least. Ok, I just heard back from John
about the Mini in Little Elm. He has not
made contact so I think I'm going to rein myself in on this project. Ok, truth time. The only reason I even came in here to talk
to y'all today was I was waiting for my work computer to re-boot so I could do
my time sheet. Now that it is up and going
I'm going to stop talking to y'all, do the time sheet, and then go home. I'll talk to y'all again Monday.
