7/1/13

Well, that was an almost totally wasted weekend.  Saturday I met John at his house and watched as he worked on his 610 for a while.  Eventually we got to a point where we needed to get some parts from the store so we broke for lunch.  We tried to go straight to An Zen Sushi, the buffet by the railroad, but they don’t open until 1200 h on Saturday… it was 1100 h when we stopped by.  We decided to go to Home Despot for some fuel line and then have lunch at Wild Sushi.  Well, Home Despot didn’t have what he needed and ate up most of the hour.  We went back to An Zen after stopping in at an O’Reilley’s for the fuel line and stuff.  When we had eaten way too much sushi, I made the offhand comment that we “could” stop in at the AT&T store and “upgrade” my phone.  I wish I hadn’t said anything because that “quick stop” turned into an hour and a half ordeal, causing John to be late to some thing Samantha wanted him to attend.  Sorry.  Oh, and the Dingleberry Q10 phone I bought is almost totally useless as well.  The ONLY time I am able to answer the damned thing is when I call it.  I missed the call from mom yesterday asking about lunch.  I missed a call from the railroad yesterday asking about… well, whatever the fuck they were trying to ask about.  I'm sure I'll miss the next call from someone as well.  I wish I'd just bought the damned 99¢ dumb phone with QWERTY keyboard she showed me.  I'm beginning to hate technology more and more as it gets more and more perv… hmm, do I want to say “pervasive” or “perverted”?  As it is doing both, I think both are appropriate.  So, there’s that.  After I left John's house, I swung by Elk Castle to try and sight in the new optic on the Saiga 12.  The parking lot looked really full… almost as full as my bladder was at the time.  I opted to go home and pee.  I sat for a bit before going back to Elk Castle.  I waited for a lane to become free and went in with the gun, optic, and twenty rounds of Fiocchi 00 buckshot ammo.  Incidentally, this is the same ammo I was using at Alpine when the gun wouldn’t cycle properly, right before the tune up.  Yeah, my gun really doesn’t like that ammo.  If I didn’t really lean into the thing, it would stove-pipe the spent rounds on ejection.  I'm going to have to make sure I never use “Low Recoil” ammo in that gun.  I'm a bit worried about the other eighty rounds of Fiocchi ammo I have on hand… although I do have other shotguns which won't be affected by “Low Recoil” ammo.  Never mind.  Anyhoo, I popped off a full five round magazine and zeroed the optic… I believe.  I need to go back and confirm that the quick-release mount holds zero and that I did in fact set it properly.  It was hitting where I was pointing, I believe, and I think I could drop a bad guy with it, but I'm just not all that confident with my zeroing right now… twenty miles away from the thing… sort of thing.  Anyhoo, when I was done at the range, I went home and cleaned the weapon.  I also hosed it down with some WD-40 and cycled the action a few times.  I really like that gun, as long as I remember to use full-power ammo.  I did notice that the thing didn’t kick nearly as hard as it did when Larry and I shot last week.  I'm sure this stuff is some namby-pamby “Low Recoil” stuff meant for follow-up shots in a pump action gun.  I otter give the rest of it to John for the Mossberg I sold him.  Oh wait, I've got a pump, a lever-action, and two break-overs which can shoost the stuff.  Never mind.  What I need to do is remove any “Full Power” rounds from those guns and replace it with this “Lady’s Ammo.”  I don’t know, we’ll see.  So, after cleaning the gun, I hung out and watched TV the rest of the day and evening.  Sunday morning it was agreed that I would meet mom at Don Pablo’s for lunch.  I cleaned up and headed that way around 1145 h and got us a table.  I ordered empanadas and a dip sampler then waited for her to arrive.  She called to say she was on her way, but as I said before, I couldn’t answer the damned Rubik’s Cube phone.  When she did arrive we ordered the Buffalo Shrimp Tacos, a mistake, and sopapillas.  We ate but she was less than impressed with the Buffalosity of the skrimps.  The ‘pillas were good though.  I paid the bill since I was the one who suggested the main course… and wasn’t unimpressed with it.  She went home and I tried to go to the AT&T store to see if they could show me how to answer this damned phone.  Of course the Ridgmar store is closed on Sunday.  I was too pissed to drive across town to the Hulen store and just went home.  It was there that I discovered I could call myself and answer it but five minutes after that experiment, I couldn’t answer a call from the railroad.  Know what?  There ain't nothin’ going on here this afternoon, I might just make a jaunt to the store on Western Center right quick.  It’ll cost me a $35.00 restocking fee, and probably another 99¢ on top of the money I paid for this POS in order to downgrade to the dumb phone, but I'm giving it serious thought.  In fact, yeah, I'm going to close up the office early and head for the store to see about that.  I'll let y'all know what happened when we next speak.
