The scrap guy called as I was hooning Heron road on the way home from
work. He asked first of all what and how
much there was. I told him car parts and
metal junk like that. He asked if it
would all fit in the back of a pickup. I
said, “With multiple trips.” He said he
would find a trailer. He then asked if I
could wait until Friday. I said Saturday
was the only day that worked and he said that was even better for him. I gave him the “address” in that I told him
it was Shoreline Mini Storage on Rocky Creek Park Road in Crowley. Hopefully he’s at least as computer savvy as
me and can look that up. I've found it
on Google before… but I know where it is.
Hmm, perhaps he’ll be MORE computer savvy than me. Anyhoo, he said he’d be there at 0800 h
Saturday morning. When those plans were
made, I immediately got nervous because I hadn’t cleared that with John. When he did reply to my text he said it
sounded like a good plan. Whew. So, if John's car scrapper shows up as well,
we might just be out of there before November 1st. That would be the bee’s knees. I could really use that $600.00 a month
“raise” from dropping that rent… and the sooner the better. So, there’s that going on. Now, I've come to another decision with
regards to the DLR fleet of cars. I've
said all along that I'm not sure I'm going to like the way Lil' Wiggly drives
with that huge donk out front. I've
worried it will be too much like the Fauxbra I used to own. I never committed one way or the other on
whether this car was being built to keep or sell, but have always said that IF
I didn’t like the handling, it would be AVAILABLE for sale. Now, however, I'm thinking I need to sell it
to finance the Mini. What I'd like to do
is take the money from selling Lil' Wiggly and George, and drop it in the
credit onion here at the railroad so it is harder to touch. That account also has the credit card I plan
to use for the Mini’s parts… which, from now on, will only be used for Mini
parts. So, having made that plan, and
knowing that we need to do something with the motor mounts in Lil' Wiggly, I'm
thinking the engine needs to come out one more time so we can put a lick of
paint in the engine bay. Of course if
John comes up with a good argument against it, I could be talked down from that
ledge. An example of a good argument
might be, “Awwww, that sounds like a lot of work,” or some other whine to that
effect. We’ll see. So, what else is there to talk about? Well, I left a note on the front door saying,
“FedEx! Please return after 5:30 for a
signature.” Like I said yesterday, I
don’t think it will work, but it was worth a try. I've just checked the tracking number and it
is on a truck, out for delivery.
Hopefully it is at the front of the truck with lots and lots of other deliveries
before it. Well, we’ll see this evening
I guess. Of course, even if it does
arrive today, and I can sign for it, I won't be doing anything with the parts
until Lil' Wiggly is up and running… well, I'll take them out and grok them of
course, but I won't be putting them on the car.
Sort of thing. Hmm, what
else? Oh, for some reason I was thinking
about Bovril this morning and realized I didn’t really know what it was. Apparently it is a beef concentrate sort of
stuff one spreads on bread or dilutes with water into a hot “tea” of
sorts. The Bovril page led me to the
Marmite page and I read about yeast-extract paste for a bit. Someone at some time had given me a jar of
Vegemite, the Australian counterpart to British Marmite, but I never opened it. The more I read, the more I wanted to hop in
the car and drive to the British Emporium in Grapevine to buy some of these
vile sounding swills. Then I remembered
that traffic to and from Grapevine, as well as in Grapevine, is horrible… and
I'm broke… and the shit sounds kind of nasty to be honest. But I still want to try it. Perhaps I'm just hungry. I've finished off the beef jerky here at my
desk and had a few broken bits of cookie from the big bag of broken cookie bits
one of the catering folks gave me… but I'm still feeling a bit peckish. Oh well, it’ll be lunchtime in… an hour and a
half!?!?!?!?! Crap, this morning is
going slow as hell! Feh, I think I've
just about said all I have to say for the day.
I'll let y'all know how the delivery went when/if I talk to you
tomorrow. Toodles. Addendum: I cut out early to try and meet the
FedEx guy… I was not successful. But he
did leave the package with a neighbor so I got the brakes for the Mini anyway! Huzzah!
