Welcorm tro superflurous “R” mronth. Irn orther wrords… Frerbruraryr! That’s taking too much brain power. I’m going to stop. Here’s what went down over the weekend. Saturday at the shop was spent installing
tunes in Scooby Two. John found some
head units on Amazon.com which had no CD players in them so they are really
small, light, and inexpensive. He bought
one for his 1200 and convinced me to do the same for Scooby Two. This I did.
I probably could have gotten away with reusing the Pioneer drivers in
the deck but I bought a pair of Pyle drivers instead. See what I did there? Anyhoo, the project began to get to me after
a bit and I may have gotten tad snippy with John when asked my opinion on some
of the connections and wiring and stuff. I literally was so annoyed that I didn’t care
how it got wired up at one point. He did
get it done and it works really… it works.
Now, this is not a critique of John’s installation, but with the
speakers mounted the way we did, they are kind of operating in free air and
therefore lose quite a bit of bass. I’m
not suggesting we try to fix it, nor am I complain… ok, I’m complaining a
little, but I’m the primary one to blame for the issue… is all I’m trying to
say… sort of thing. It is far better
than before, music wise, so I need to just shut my pie-hole and move on. After we installed and tested the stereo, I
readjusted the choke on Scooby Two and now it actually works! Now the thing will fire up from cold and only
takes five minutes to be drivable! Actually,
Sunday I hopped in and gave it a couple stomps on the gas pedal then cranked it
up. It fired and settled into a 2krpm
idle for a minute. I blipped the
throttle and it slowed to 850-900 revs and seemed happy. I didn’t wait for it to actually reach
temperature and took off. Yeah, it
stumbled and coughed a few times until it was truly warmed up, but I was able
to head out much quicker than before.
Now my concerns are with the voltage regulator, split CV boot(s?), and
the oil pressure. Dead cold the oil
pressure is maxed out on the gauge; warmed up, it has almost none registering
at idle. Running down the road it is a
bit shy of the “ten pounds per thousand revs” old saw as well. Well, it looks as though it is an external
pump so changing it might not be a nightmare.
We’ll see. Of course no one is
going to have the EA71 pump and the EA81 pump they will have will be
different. Hmm, might be time to start
shopping for a rear-ended early ‘90s FWD Impreza for a swap. Yeah, because that is just what I need to do,
take a running and driving car off the road for an engine swap since there is
nothing else going on at the shop. No, I
need to shut the hell up and enjoy the thing as long as it will go… or until someone
buys it from me. Oh, it also needs
seats. I noticed the driver’s seat had
the “Gangsta Lean” going so I adjusted it up a notch. That was fine for a few miles until it went
“Shthunk!” and fell back again. I
readjusted and pushed the handle down to make sure it was fully engaged and it
was fine for several hours… then it went “Shthunk!” again. Sure, it is drivable in the reclined
position, but I don’t like it nor do I trust it anymore. I think I may go seat shopping on the
intergoogles here in a bit. Hmm, since I
don’t seem to have anything else to say, I guess I’ll call it a rant and go do
that. Have a day.
