8/17/10

Oh man, I hate Tuesday. This week is going so friggin’ slow. Is it really only Tuesday? Feh. OK, so after leaving Granny’s Tacos I went home and wasted the rest of the day napping. I stayed up way too late Saturday night because channel 13 has reintroduced “One Star Theater.” I remember back in the late seventies watching B (and lower) grade movies late at night on that program. “One, one, one ‘One Star Theater’ bleah!” the “theme song” would announce, and then some Hammer film or Bela Lugosi “horror” would start. Ah, memories. Well, a few weeks ago, after staying up and watching “Dr. Who,” another program began. This “janitor” walks in the view of the camera pushing a garbage can. From the can he pulls out an old 16mm film projector. He shuts off his transistor radio and starts the projector. I'm sitting there watching this and jokingly say to myself, “One, one, one ‘One Star Theater’ bleah!” I'm amazed when the very same thing comes out of my TV’s speakers! I almost grabbed my phone to call someone but realized a) no one I know would remember “One Star Theater” and 2) it was 0100 h on a Sunday morning. I managed to sleep through that first night’s movie, “The Hideous Sun Monster,” or something to that effect. The next weekend was a Hammer film featuring a recurring character named Dr. Bernard Quatermass. I'm not sure of the title of this particular film but it had an invasion from space theme to it. This last weekend was Bela Lugosi in “The Corpse Vanishes.” One of his henchmen was the “Master” half of “Master/Blaster” from “Mad Max: Beyond Thunder Dome.” His voice was not hard to recognize. I finally go to bed around 0200 h knowing I can sleep in. I get a call from my sister wanting to know if mom needs any help with the luncheon at the church and I tell her it has been postponed. We decide to go to lunch with mom later. Mom and I meet Linda at Genghis Grill at around 1400 h and we eat. My first bowl is so friggin spicy that I'm crying the whole time I'm eating it. It was good. I go back for a second bowl and make it much milder. Mom declines my sister’s offer to go to Sam’s with her and we head home. Gregg was supposed to come by and buy a set of wheels from John through me but at the last moment decides to not make the trek across town. I decide against taking The Seven out for a hoon and waste the rest of the day. So, there you have it. I wasn't sure how I was going to have anything interesting to say, and some might argue I didn't, but then I remembered the “One Star Theater” stuff. Check it out, KERA channel 13 at 0100 h Sunday morning after they air “Dr. Who.”
